Lesson 3 Person in Community

Introduction  This

module aims to guide a person in in becoming aware of himself/herself so that he could serve meaningfully in the society.  The concept of self-exploration is identical with that of self-awareness wherein, a person might discover characteristics & talents that are new to him/her & could also realize events in his/her life that could lead to the occurrence of the significant changes.

Concept 

Self-awareness 





Is essential as a first step in understanding one’s role in the community. Is defined with theoretical basis as cited in general & social psychology. being conscious of the overall experiences in life & acknowledging them

An effective tool in knowing the students.

JOHARI WINDOWS MODEL  Is

also referred to as a “disclosure/feedback model of self awareness,” and by some people as an information-processing tool.  It was a tool designed to improve self-awareness & mutual understanding among individuals within the group.

Johari Window Four Regions OPEN

What is know by the person about him/herself & is also known by others.

2. BLIND - what is unknown by the person about him/herself but which others know. 3. HIDDEN - what the person knows about him/herself that others do not know. 4. UNKNOWN - what is unknown by the person about him/herself & is also unknown by others.

Concept of Personality It is common consideration that when a person is aware of himself/herself, establishing a good relationship with the significant people around become easy.  Knowing one’s strength & weakness is helpful in improving the quality of life of an individual. 

Social Responsibility: Every Person’s Response  Awareness

of one’s social nature could come only after self-awareness.  The society of man is a system of long established relationships.  An individual can never live alone.  Social responsibility involves building harmonious relationship with significant factors affecting the wholeness of an individual.

Role of a Person in Community Development

Definition of Community A human community is a community or a group of persons.

The Filipino Community The Filipino community is predominantly, rural, transitional, particularistic, multilingual, segmented, and developing.

Nature of Partner Community In the field of social work there are three recognized types of communities- the rural, urban, and rurban.

Person in Community  It

means that it is the community that defines the person.  A person in community is the one who practices his/her social responsibility.  A person in the community therefore, is one who has deep sense of self-awareness; one who understand the dimension of personality as well as his concerns; and most importantly, one that acknowledges his social responsibility.  A concrete manifestation of this concept is through the implementation of the NSTP-CWTS program through the efforts of the students.
