So again, if at stage 1, a person’s action is considered morally right if he/she behaves according to socially acceptable norms and/or according to what they’re told to do by someone with authority; at stage 2, a person’s action is judged as morally right if it helps in satisfying his/her own needs or if it involves a fair exchange. In stage 2, people basically start to recognize that they also have their own needs. They start to discover their interests or self-interest. WHICH leads us to the definition of self-interest orientation. Self-interest orientation refers to the introduction of wants and needs of people, specifically taught and deepened during childhood. In this stage, children are taught about what people want based on their environment, society, or self. Basically speaking, this is the time children begin to know what they are interested in. Theoretically, this stage is often observed in people at the age of 9 or younger, sometimes even older than 9. Though, the point here is that people, within that age range, or people in this stage, focus more on their own individual interests, rewards, and the "fairness" rather than actually looking into the real justice. This stage expresses the "what's in it for me?" position, in which the right action is defined by whatever satisfies the person's interest and by what the person believes is fair. As a result, people develop the "you scratch my back, and I'll scratch yours" mentality. This mentality describes the fairness, reciprocity, and equal sharing that are present in this stage. So ayun, buti pa dito present ang reciprocity. Eh yung feelings ko kaya, kelan marereciprocate. Moving on, this mentality can also be related to the quotes, "Do unto others as they do unto you" and "An eye for an eye", which both describes the fairness of an action to be considered right.
