Peace March for the World September 21, 2009

What ? Why ? Several Thai and Burmese groups are planning to congregate in Mae Sot and march from just outside Mae Sot to the Myawaddy Bridge on International Peace Day, September 21rst. The march intends to symbolize inter-faith solidarity for peace, against nuclear enrichment and civil in Burma and to commemorate the peaceful march of Burmese monks which was violently crushed on September 18th 2007. The route of the march will pass by the Mae Sot park and end at the bridge, where there will be an inter-faith prayer for the world. Over one hundred people will join together at the Asia highway checkpoint outside Maesot, including 10 monks. The format of the march will be quiet, with bells being rung by monks and dove-placards and a banner expressing the Metta Sutra.

When? Where? September 21, 2009 from 9am to 4pm Mae-Sot, Tak Province, Thailand

IBMO (International Burmese Monks Organization), TACDB (Thai Action Committee for Democracy in Burma), INEB (International Network of Engaged Buddhists)

Participants:

Thai and Burmese monks, representatives from Student Federation of Thailand, Young Peoples for Democracy Thailand, Alternative Asean Network for Burma (Altsean-Burma), foreigners, Friends of Burma Network and Thai activists will also join the march

Program Details

9 AM: 15 minutes of Prayer (Inter-faith Christian and Buddhist) 9.15 AM: Walk from pagoda outside Mae Sot check point to the City Park where we will rest and have lunch. 11 AM: Park (media interview) 4 PM: Walk past Mae Sot Clinic and city centre (market) to Myawaddy Bridge
