Gus and Tina are the well travelled teddy bears that have been photographed across the globe as part of efforts to raise money for the St Augustine’s restoration funds.

Holiday makers can book Gus or his latterly arrived sister Tina for a fortnight (£5), weekly(£2.50) or daily (£1) trip. The only stipulation is the requirement to send back a photograph showing the teddy bear enjoying itself on holiday!

But despite a visit to the town hall during the week and a call to a local town councillor one concerned reader just can’t find any evidence of where that event is taking place this evening?

Can anybody provide information on the missing Barn Dance? Is an event taking place? If so, where and when?

East Yorkshire Citizens Advice Bureau – the CAB – is holding an advice and money event at Hedon’s Coop store at New Road Hedon on Thursday 12th November. The event is an opportunity for people to go along and seek help about any financial concerns they have. The event runs from 10am – 2:30pm and residents can call in at any time. This is a special event for Hedon, normally the CAB can normally be contacted as below: East Yorkshire Citizens Advice Bureau 5a Prospect Arcade Bridlington YO15 2AL The CAB also has offices for appointments in Driffield and Withernsea. The CAB operates an appointments system – please ring for an appointment or contact our Advice line to speak to an adviser. The CAB can make a difference as this case study from its website confirms: An 80 year old housebound client suffering from emphysema was turned down for Attendance Allowance. The bureau challenged the decision after obtaining evidence to support the claim and the decision was overturned. Attendance Allowance was awarded, increasing the client ’s weekly income by almost £100.” Filed under: East Yorkshire UK, Hedon | Tagged: Citizens Advice Bureau, COOP, Cooperative Store Hedon | Leave a Comment »
Blue wheelie bins – new council advice Posted on November 9, 2009 by rayduff
CANS AND PLASTIC BOTTLES can now be mixed with paper in the East Riding Council’s blue wheelie bins according to a council update printed in the Holderness Advertiser last week. Prior to this latest advice you had to put cans and plastic bottles into a plastic carrier bag first. Now residents are being asked to wash cans and bottles out and – after drying and the cans are crushed – they can be added straight to the blue bin. Obviously squashed cans take up far less room in the refuse lorries. The Council’s Environmental portfolio holder Councillor Symon Fraser advised residents to wash and squash the cans and plastic: “When they are cleaned in washing up water, dried on the side and then squashed, there are no nasty liquids to contaminate the paper. ” The Council website at the time of writing has not yet been updated to reflect this new advice, however, the Blue Bins page is still a source of useful information. To support this new message the Council is giving away free can crushers to three lucky residents. To be in with a chance of winning you need to e mail
