Learning Contract Chapter 2 – Cultivating Character
Objectives of the Chapter •
Explain how virtues are character strengths and how they are developed.

List and understand the theological virtues of faith, hope and love. List and understand the cardinal virtues of prudence, justice, fortitude and temperance. Understand the importance of creating communities of character is also a part of the moral life.

Objectives for Study 1. *Read Chapter 2, pp. 2137. 2. *Define the 18 vocabulary terms (in bold type) found in Chapter 2. Must be hand written. 3. *Complete For Review questions 15 (p. 23) and 69 & 11 (p. 29). Either write out the questions or answer in complete sentences (your answers contain the questions). Each person’s answers should be different. 4. *Photocopy one subsection of Chapter 2 (ex., ‘Virtues, pp. 2223). Using highlighters and pens and writing in the margins, outline that section. 5. Write a short story of somebody having to make a tough moral choice or choosing ‘Costly Grace.’ 1 page. 6. Choose any of the following Activities, one Objective credit for each one done: B (p. 23), D (p. 26, about a page in length), E (p. 27), F (p. 28), H (p. 10), I (p. 11), J (p. 34)
Grades: A: Select 6 of the above Objectives for Study and complete them. (Must include 14.) B: Select 5 of the above Objectives for Study and complete them. (Must include 14.) C: Select the first 4 Objectives for Study and complete them.
All Objectives for Study accomplished must be understandable, your own work and complete. Failure to produce the minimum 4 assignments results in no grade. Work incomplete will be turned back to the student to redo until completed. Deadlines will be observed.
