First Baptist Church of Mount Olive Pastor’s Job Description Worship Lead, plan/order, coordinate and evaluate all regular and special worship services, including a weekly prayer, praise and proclamation service (currently held on Wednesday nights). Effectively proclaim the Gospel through, well-prepared, scripture-based, prayerfully considered sermons/preaching. (Titus 1:9) Conduct/perform and officiate at church ordinances (such as baptisms and the Lord’s Supper), funerals/memorial services and weddings, as needed, requested or desired. Evangelism Be a Spirit-led evangelizer, training, inspiring and encouraging the congregation, by word and example, to proclaim the Gospel, to demonstrate kindness and hospitality and to perform “good works”, including local, domestic and foreign missions, in order to bring lost souls to Christ and bring glory to God. (Matt. 5:16, 28:19, Eph. 2:10, James 2:16-17, 1 Pe. 2:12) Teaching and Discipleship Training Encourage all members of the congregation to “seek first the Kingdom of God”. (Matt. 6:33, Prov. 3:9-10, Mal. 3:10, 2 Cor. 9:6-8) Help church members identify and use their spiritual gifts to the edification of the church body and to the glory of God. (1 Cor. Chapter 12 & 14:12) Teach the congregation to observe the commandments of God and to demonstrate the love of Christ, by word and example. (Matt. 5:19, 1 Pe. 5:2-3) Uphold the fundamental Christian principals of justification by faith and salvation by the grace of God. (Rom. 5:1-2) Train, encourage and inspire deacons and other lay persons for their church responsibilities. Encourage the congregation to study and meditate upon God’s word. (Matt. 5:38-48) Work to promote and preserve church harmony and brotherly love and affection in the congregation by word and example. (Rom. 12:10, Heb. 13:1) Visit, pray with, and seek to comfort and encourage, members of the congregation who are sick, elderly, imprisoned, bereaved, in nursing homes, shut-ins, or otherwise troubled and assist, encourage and inspire the deacons in their efforts to do the same. (Heb. 13:3) Provide skilled, compassionate and confidential counseling to church members and others as the pastor deems appropriate. Love, affirm, encourage and upbuild all individual persons and families within the congregation. Work to facilitate accurate, timely and positive communication between church members, committees and staff.
