PARVO VIRUS • Non enveloped Icosahedral symmetry • Ss DNA 3 genra: a) Parvo virus – Mainly animal virus, diarrhoea in humans is caused by some of them. b) Erythrovirus - Parvovirus B 19 c) Dependo virus - also known as “Adeno - associated virus" (Dependent on co-infection of a helper Adeno Virus for their replication) Parvo Virus B19 / Erythro Virus – has affinity for immature RBCs. Causes: • Erythema infectiousum - Slapped cheek appearance in children. • Chronic Anemia - In immunodeficient, Acute leukaemic patients on chemotherapy. • Arthropathy • Transient Aplastic crisis - In patients of sickle cell anaemia, Thallasemia, Spherocytocis, blood loss. • Erthroblastosis foetalis - Neonatal infection. Lab diagnosis: Cultured in cells of human bone narrow or foetal liver in presence of erythropoietin and interleukin -3.
