Parables: Two Sons To Remember: God is pleased with those who DO His will. Vocabulary repent - to change your mind, to turn around Lesson Matthew 21:28-32 Sing: I want to be a worker for the Lord Activity: Play Simon says. Accentuate the difference between being a hearer and a doer. Craft: Paper Plate. Have students draw faces for each son on each side of the plate. Have them put a smiley face on one side and note that this son did his father’s will. Put a frown on the other side, and mark it as the son who did not do his father’s will. You can have the students use them when doing true/false questions. Hold up smiley for true and frown for false. Worksheet: take home sheet on the two sons .pdf True or False 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Review Questions (can be used with gameboard) linguistic questions 1. Define repent. 2. Which book does this lesson come from? 3. Define obey.

activity questions 1. Lead class in short prayer asking God to forgive us for things we did not do. 2. Act out the man who decided to obey his father. 3. Draw a picture of a boy obeying his father.

emotion questions 1. How did the father feel about the son that obeyed? 2. How did the father feel about the son that disobeyed? 3. How does God feel when we say we’ll obey him and then don’t?

application questions 1. Who asks us to do work for Him? 2. What should we do when we find out we are disobeying God? 3. Is it enough just to talk about being right?

fact questions 1. Name 2 things God has asked you to do? 2. Name one thing you knew you should do, but didn’t. 3. Has God asked us to do anything we can’t do?

review questions 1. How do we learn what God wants us to do? 2. Who will help us when we are having a hard time? 3. What can we do to help us when we are tempted not to obey? Memory Work •

James 1:22 "But be doers of the word, and not merely hearers who deceive themselves."

Memory Work: Have the students (or prepare) actions to go with the words of the memory verse. Act out the verse together as a group. For example: for doers, everyone pretend they are walking or working with their hands. For word, cup hands like they are holding a book. For hearers, cup your ear; etc.
