Committee of the Whole Public Briefing on the Fiscal Year 2008 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR): Friday, February 6, 10 am in Room 500.
Note: the schedule may change so it is important to verify the hearing at least the day before.
From the Council: Those wishing to testify are encouraged, but not required, to submit written testimony in advance of each hearing to Cynthia Brock-Smith, Secretary to the Council of the District of Columbia; Suite 5; John A. Wilson Building; 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W.; Washington, DC 20004. If a written statement cannot be provided prior to the day of the hearing, please have at least 20 copies of your written statement available on the day of the hearing for immediate distribution to the Council. The hearing record will close two business days following the conclusion of each respective hearing. Persons submitting written statements for the record should observe this deadline.
The City Council’s particular interest is hearing about successes and challenges implementing programs and policies and receiving specific recommendations for improvements including examples of successful programs.
The annual performance oversight hearings are important – they allow the Council and the public to determine how well city agencies have performed relative to serving children and youth in previous and current fiscal years. The public is encouraged to participate in the process. There are numerous ways this can be accomplished including: • residents, advocates and providers can testify at hearings, presenting testimony in person • people may submit a written statement • residents and others may share their views with members and staff in meetings; and they may participate in efforts for community engagement (lobby days, for example)
