OUR VARIETIES OF COFFEE Have fun selecting the variety that suits your taste. The following information on the attributes of coffee will help you to make this important decision. To satisfy every taste and to take advantage of Colombia’s geographic and environmental wealth, Juan Valdez ® Cafes have developed nine varieties of coffee, each with its own special and distinct characteristics.

MILD COFFEES These are our mildest, high-acidity coffees.  Macizo - Mild and Discrete  This mild coffee is a mysterious blend of pronounced acidity and low body. A light medium roast underscores its intense aroma and flavor. The hint of sweetness makes it preferred by those who appreciate a discretely mild coffee. Aroma: Pronounced Acidity: High Body: Low

BALANCED COFFEES The distinguishing feature of these coffees is their uniform impression on the senses. They are perceived intensely, but with no sharp contrasts.  Colina - Silky and Enveloping  Small round beans known as peaberries are selected for this coffee. It produces a delicate texture and medium-bodied cup that is soft on the palate and leaves a pleasing sensation of medium acidity. Aroma: Pronounced Acidity: Medium/Low Body: Medium

 Pico – Sophisticated Balance This is a refined, medium-bodied coffee with an intense fragrance and a flavor that hints deliciously of chocolate. Its characteristic subtle acidity rounds out a world of sensations that make for a perfectly balanced cup. It is an ideal coffee for any time of day. Aroma: Pronounced Acidity: Medium/Low Body: Medium

STRONG COFFEES These full-bodied coffees have a strong front palate impact and intense flavor.  Cumbre – Vital Force  With its strong character and intense aroma, this is a perfect coffee to awaken the senses. Its full body and medium acidity make it a dominant brew with a magnificent flavor. Aroma: Pronounced Acidity: Medium/Low Body: Medium/High

 Ladera – Imposing and Exotic These exotic and magical Maragojipe beans produce a full-bodied cup with a lush fragrance. The strong front palate impact of this coffee is offset by delicate hints of tartness that define and round out its impeccable flavor. Aroma: Pronounced Acidity: Low Body: Medium/High

 Volcán – Intense and Ideal for Espresso  This deep-flavored coffee is preferred by consumers who adore lasting sensations. The intricate contrast between full body and low acidity, coupled with an insinuating aroma produced by medium-high roasting, make this an idea coffee for espresso. Aroma: Very strong Acidity: Low Body: High

DECAFFEINATED COFFEES The appeal of our decaffeinated varieties is their unaltered taste and aroma. Nearly all the caffeine is extracted through a process than uses only natural components derived from sugar cane.

 Cumbre – Decaffeinated – Vital Force This variety preserves the strong character and intense aroma of Cumbre coffee, with most of the caffeine removed. A sweet and slightly winy taste distinguishes it from other varieties.

ORIGIN COFFEES  Guajira In the Department of Guajira, coffee is grown on the foothills of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and Perijá Mountains. Distinguished by its special size, flavor, aroma and body, it is an excellent coffee produced in clean and environmentally-safe conditions.  Huila The Department of Huila has the geographic location, environmental conditions and ideal climate for one of the world’s best specialty coffees. Its wealth of natural resources, coupled with the teamwork, commitment and leadership of the 67 thousand families in the region who grow coffee, guarantee the quality of their product. Huila coffee combines all the good qualities of Colombian coffee and is prized for its consistent flavor, pronounced aroma and medium acidity, which have made it a favorite among specialty coffee drinkers the world over.

 Amazónico  Carefully produced by hundreds of settlers who came to the region years ago from northwest Colombia, this exotic coffee with a distinctive flavor is grown according to traditions that respect the balance between man and nature.  Distinguished by its herbal aroma and subtle acidity, this coffee is grown in the Amazon Basin, a geographically extraordinary region of uneven terrain and steep slopes surrounded by natural streams and jungle vegetation. This unique and very special region provides a habitat for millions of wild animals.

 Nariño This specialty coffee is grown on fertile and imposing volcanic mountains in the Department of Nariño, precisely where the Andes divide into three separate ranges that extend across Colombia. The favorable environment and climate allow for the production of a large bean of excellent quality. Nariño coffee is the result of simple and honest hard work, dedication and respect for the land by more than 20 thousand coffee-growing families, and is a worthy representative of the Nariñense culture.

ENVIRONMENTALLY-SUSTAINABLE COFFEES Juan Valdez® environmentally-sustainable coffees are approved by international agencies dedicated to environmental protection.

 Organic Coffee Grown and produced without chemicals, this coffee is certified as 100% organic by two international agencies: BCS and USDA. BCS is an independent institute with 22 offices the world over dedicated to promoting serious and ecologically responsible farming. Its certification is a the leading international seal of approval. USDA is the United States Department of Agriculture. It endorses and certifies this product as 100% organic. The USDA seal is used to identify agricultural products that meet the organic production standards for the US market. This coffee is grown with organic fertilizers, prevents erosion, and protects soil and water resources.

 Farm Coffee  This NEW Farm Coffee contains more than excellent beans. It is grown by farmers who understand and apply the social, economic and environmental principles certified worldwide with the UTZ seal, which guarantees responsible coffee production and distribution.  The name is used in recognition of the coffee farms that meet the standards required for this international seal of approval.  Forest Coffee Certified internationally by Rainforest Alliance, Forest Coffee is produced by farm families who make a special effort to grow a variety of plant species within a particular region. This contributes to the wealth of the soil, helps to preserve wildlife, and protects water sources. Fundación Natura conducts yearly audits to ensure compliance with each of the processes recommended by Rainforest Alliance.

 Freeze-Dried Coffee Juan Valdez®  Freeze-drying is the ideal process to preserve the attributes of flavor, aroma and perfect balance of high quality coffee. It allows experiencing the nearest flavor and aroma of fresh roast and ground coffee. We use the most advance technology always caring for the respect of the environment.

PODS Using a POD is one of the newest and most efficient ways to brew coffee. A POD is an individually wrapped pre-measured amount of coffee, carefully sealed to retain freshness. OUR VARIETIES OF COFFEE  COMPOSITION: These are different types or special blends of coffee developed to achieve a distinct cup profile.  EXOTIC: Unusual varieties of coffee that are difficult to find and produced in limited quantities.  SUSTAINABLE: Coffee grown in an environmentally friendly way.  ESPRESSO: Coffees designed especially for espresso.  ORIGIN:Our coffees are product of the cultural and environmental diversity found in every corner of the Colombian coffee region. Colombia’s geographic location, coupled with the dedication and care taken by hundreds of coffee growers during the entire procedure, from planting to picking, processing and selecting the best beans, results in superb coffees, Juan Valdez ® Coffees.
