Octavio Ocampo was born in Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico on February 28, 1943. Growing up in a family of designers, he first studied art as a boy. . At the art school, Ocampo constructed "papier mache" figures for floats, altars, and ornaments that were used during carnival parades and other festivals.

Octavio Ocampo werd geboren in Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico op 28 february 1943. Hij groeide op in een familie van designers en als jongen studeerde hij al kunst. Op de kunstschool, bewerkte Ocampo "papier maché“-figuren voor vlotten, altaren en versiersels die werden gebruikt voor carnavalparades en andere festiviteiten.

The talents of Octavio Ocampo were not limited to painting and sculpture, but also extended to acting and dancing. While at the Art Institute of San Francisco, he studied all these disciplines and pursued both a film and theater career. In 1976, he began to devote himself solely to painting and sculpture. He now works primarily in the metamorphic style – using a technique of superimposing and juxtaposing realistic and figurative details within the images that he creates. One has to look long and hard at Octavio’s paintings. The longer one looks at his work, the more that is revealed. Flowers become faces, mountains speak to each other, and mourners over a coffin become the face of Christ. His works are full of symbolism, endlessly fascinating, each revealing a new facet, different to each viewer.

De talenten van Octavio Ocampo beperkten zich niet tot schilderen en sculpturen, maar gingen ook naar acteren en dansen. Aan de Art Institute of San Francisco, studeerde hij al deze disciplines en hij streefde naar zowel een film- als een theatercarrière In 1976 begon hij zich alleen toe te wijden aan schilderen en sculpteren. Hij werkt voornamelijk in de metaforische stijl, hierbij een techniek gebruikend van het over mekaar en dicht naast mekaar plaatsen van realistische- en figuratieve details. Men moet lang en doordringend kijken naar Octavio’s beelden. Hoe langer men naar zijn werk kijkt, hoe meer er wordt onthuld. Bloemen worden gezichten, bergen spreken met elkaar en zij die treuren over een lijkkist worden het gezicht van Christus.Zijn werk is vol symboliek, oneindige facinatie, elk een nieuw facet tonend dat verschillend is voor elke kijker.
