“St. Francis Xavier, a welcoming faith community lovingly sharing the gifts of God.”

FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING NOVEMBER 23RD, 2008 IN YOUR PRAYERS: We pray for our loved ones who have died especially Elvina Zavitski and Kathy Quinn. We pray for our sick, especially Jack Sherlock, Kurt Spitznagel, Mary Russell, Kathy Searson, Joyce McMahon, Stan Deacon, Gerry Emon, Richard Leppert, Lucille Leveck-Kalimeris, Joseph Valliquette, Stella Kearney, Elizabeth Brumm, Tracy Mulvihill, Gladys McNulty, Marie Hanrahan, Mary Drake, Ed Lee, Shirley Church, Claude Gagnon and Helen Valliquette.

PRAYERS FOR THE SICK: Palliative Care is that expression of care we extend to persons who are challenged with the transition from life as we know it in this world to a life with God beyond death. Palliative Care in essence is one of the Corporal Works of Mercy. Our tradition of lifting up the needs of the sick and suffering in prayer is a wonderful way of seeking God’s blessing in such a challenging journey. Our parish bulletin has provided us with an invitation to do just that – to pray for certain persons who are sick and suffering. It can be difficult to ascertain at times who should be listed here. One has to be aware “of personal feeling of privacy”, “duration of an illness” and the natural process of human life called aging which does not always lead to critical sickness. As well, some people’s illness is not due to physical sickness and so requires particular sensitivity. Our request for prayers is not to be seen only as an information item about a person’s physical state or health need. Having said this – we at the parish office are challenged to make “good decisions” in this sensitive area and do not sometimes meet some people’s expectations. If you have concerns about your interest in this matter please speak to one of us, preferably the Pastor, so that we can address your concerns. For the time being we will be inviting you to raise up in “your prayer time” the needs of those who, connected to our parish family, are experiencing serious sickness.

THE YEAR OF ST. PAUL “A special year will be dedicated for the Bimillennium Celebrations of the Birth of the Apostle Paul. This Pauline Year will begin from June 28, 2008 to June 29, 2009.” Pope Benedict XVI We will celebrate this Pauline Year with a Parish Mission during Lent. It will be facilitated by Father Rick Walsh – a member of the Paulist Community in Toronto. Please enjoy the articles in future bulletins which will lead us up to his presentations.
