I’m sure we all have experienced organized sports either personally or existentially through our kids, siblings, or favorite sports team. We have experienced extreme jubilation from a hard fought victory and suffered severe humiliation in the throws of utter defeat. Ultimately what propels teams to victory and hinders a team that fails is teamwork. Teamwork, whether in sports, academia, or corporate environment is building upon the collective talents of each member of the team in a cohesive fashion to drive to a common goal or end result. No individual person on the team can achieve the end result without the help of the rest of the team. We have all watched the TV documentaries, read the books, and attended professional development courses to help us to be more effective leaders, coaches, and teammates. But no matter how much you do as an individual it can be pointless without a unified team. Over my academic, sports, military, and corporate experience I noticed the following characteristics are present in successful teams: •

Communication – Open, honest, constructive, and two-way communication between all team members

Empathy – Being aware of others feelings and concerns on your team

Motivation – The drive (intrinsic or extrinsic) to keep you and the team going to the end

Skill – Your individual contribution and expertise blended to deliver

Collaboration – Working within and across the team, organization, and other teams to get the job done

Last week I returned from Houston where I had a chance to tour and touch the actual Mission Control where Gene Kranz and his NASA team brought the Apollo 13 crew home from space. It was truly a great experience to see where history was made. I can only imagine the energy in the room and how they put aside differences to get the astronauts home. So no matter what the challenge may be, it is up to you to be a solid member of the team to get the job done.

Presentation 1: Lock, Bypass, and Countermeasures Doug Gullett

Some are moving to a smaller “living” footprint. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23358591

This talk will focus on a part of the "Physical Security" aspect of information security. We will look at the history of locks, how they work, how various flaws are exploited and what countermeasures can be put in place to improve their security. Various lock bypass methods will be demonstrated and countermeasures discussed.

Sen. Inhofe Calls for Inquiry Into 'Suppressed' Climate Change Report Republicans are raising questions about why the EPA apparently dismissed an analyst's report questioning the science behind global warming. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/06/29/gop-senatorcalls-inquiry-supressed-climate-change-report/

I have always been interested in computers and security. In 7th grade I talked my parents into buying an Apple II+ and then a few years later the Apple IIe. In High school, I learned about lock picking and worked enough odd jobs to pay for a Locksmithing course. Both remained hobbies of mine over the years until in the late 90's I took a course in Computer Security. That has been my focus and passion ever since. I am a Certified Ethical Hacker and currently work at GE in the Incident Response section of Security Operations as a contractor.

Brian Kesson, CISSP, CNDA - Brian is a Senior Information Assurance Analyst for the Air Force Research Laboratory. He has been in the IT field for over 15 years and has been focused on multiple aspects of security for the last 10.
