NOTICE OF COMPLAINT
ADAMS, Chairman; DIAMOND and REISHUS, Commissioners On May 8, 2006, the Commission received a complaint signed by James D. Cowie, and 21 other persons against Verizon Maine. The complaint, filed pursuant to 35-A M.R.S.A. § 1302, is a request that the Commission investigate whether Verizon is cooperating in Maine with the national security agency’s warrantless domestic wiretapping program, as more fully set forth in the complaint, a copy of which is attached to this Notice. Pursuant to 35-A M.R.S.A. § 1302, the Commission notifies Verizon Maine, called the Utility, of the complaint described above and orders that the Utility file its response to the complaint within 10 days of the date of this Notice. If after receipt of the response, the Commission is satisfied that the Utility has taken adequate steps to remove the cause of the complaint or that the complaint is without merit, it may dismiss the complaint. If the complaint is not dismissed, the Commission will begin a formal investigation and schedule a public hearing. Dated at Augusta, Maine, this 9th day of May, 2006.
