Not all that swells ends well - 60 y/o rushed to ER bec of inability to open jaw. He reports that a wekk ago he was gardening and hurt his finger on a rose thorn. He applied penicillin powder on the wound but noticed a painful red streak on his forearm a day later. Temperature was 38.5 deg C BP170/90, RR 23/min, PR 110/min. he was unable to open mouth, neck not rigid, and muscle strength was 5/5 on all extremities. The right index finger was erythematous and swollen with a reddish linear lesion on the anterior surface of the right forearm.
