How has Karachi developed? By Saad & Hamza V D
Our staff reporter found out some interesting facts about how Karachi developed. He says that Karachi started life when a Sindhi fisher woman called Mai Kolachi took up residence and started a family. The place was known as Kolachi-joGoth. Karachi was also the starting point for Mohammad bin Qasim
and his army in 712 CE. Sir Charles Napier worked hard in developing a seaport which is still used in Karachi. In 1914 Karachi was made the capital of Sindh. In 1947 Karachi was chosen to be Pakistan’s capital. After some years Islamabad was made Pakistan's capital. And since then Karachi is progressing.

Interview of Dr.Jamiluddin Aali
By Fareeha & Nooria VD
A few days ago we, the students of Class V Gulshan Primary -II got the opportunity to interview Dr.Jamiluddin Aali, an important personality of our city and country. We would like to share our experience with you. Students welcomed
Dr.Aali by singing his own song ‘Jeeway Pakistan’ Dr.Aali has been in Karachi for almost 63 years. He came here in August 1947 when he was just 22 years old! They went through difficult times when Karachi was being developed. He had to manage without electricity for a long time. He even
had about 40 people staying in his small house at one time! He told us that some buildings such as Frere Hall, Ilaqo House, Empress Market, Port Trust Building and some areas of Saddar were built at the time. Others were developed much later. Karachi was made the capital of Pakistan at first. Later,
Islamabad was planned and made the capital. Dr.Aali also told us the interesting fact that land at that time was sold for one rupee per square yard! It was an interesting and rewarding experience, talking to Dr.Aali.

Roads of Karachi Dear Sir: I want people to pay attention to the problems faced by everyone on the roads. A lot of people do not follow the rules of driving. They go on the wrong side to save gas and time. This causes accidents and problems for other people. Many people use the horn unnecessarily, which disturbs others. TV and radio programmes should be developed to improve driving sense. Signs can be put in the city. The government should be stricter when giving licenses. They should also train the traffic police better. I hope something will be done to solve this problem soon. Thank you, Asim Ahmed Arafeen Ali Class V-B Gulshan Primary II Branch, Beaconhouse School System
MAIL BOX Polluting the City Dear Sir: Our city is a good place but it has some problems. One big problem in the city is pollution. There is rubbish by the roadsides and even on the seaside. There is paan spit everywhere which looks very bad. The people in charge should put public dustbins in different places in the city. People should not spit paan in corners and on walls. They should throw their rubbish in proper places. If everyone is careful and co-operates, we can have a clean city. I request the people of Karachi to develop the city and please solve this problem of pollution. Yours sincerely, S.M.Hasan Rizvi Class V-F Gulshan Primary II Branch, Beaconhouse School System Send your Emails to;

By Fatima and Yusra VD
In Karachi there are many interesting and fun places to visit and enjoy such as parks, historical places and big shopping malls. We went around and visited most of them. Good places to visit
are Quaid’s Mazar and the beaches. Askari park was recently completed which is a nice place to visit. The Dolmen mall is fun for children. Parents should take their children to different places and the tourists should come and visit these places.
summers but mild winters. During summer, it is hot and humid because the city is near the sea. It is mostly unpleasant in May and June. However, in July there is some relief because of the cloudy weather and rain. Temperatures sometimes go up to 45 C. The weather in August till October is also quite warm. This year, the weather was very cool even in February. When winds blew from Quetta it was quite cold. We also saw
some foggy weather this year. People coming from cold places say they do not feel cold at all. Visitors usually enjoy winter in Karachi.
