District Board Change Over RAC Yogyakarta Malioboro sukses menjadi host untuk Rotaract District Board Change Over di Kaliurang pada tanggal 5 Juli 2009 tempo lalu.

DRR Budi sebagai simbol atas diserahkanya masa tuga selanjutnya ke pundak DRR Budi Wibowo. Sesi foto-foto yang ditunggu-tunggu ternyata memakan korban. Pot tanaman Djemanii atau gelombang cinta milik Villa tempat kita menyewa kamar/ruangan, di senggol dan dipecahkan dengan suskes oleh salah satu rotaractors. Belum lagi ternyata salah satu anggota RAC Yogyakarta Malioboro mengalami musibah ketika menuju Kaliurang atas. Mobil Jazz milik Rtc. Amelita Concita yang dikemudikan oleh Rtc. Jayaferson diserempet cukup dalam oleh seekor motor. Doa kami bersamamu kawan.

Dihadiri oleh RAC area Jogja, RAC area Semarang, Rtc. Shelomita Savitri RAC Jakarta Cosmopolitan, Rtc. Femi RAC Jakarta Gambir, dua Rotaractors dari Hongkong Rtc. Siu Yan Denise dan Rtc. Mary dan juga satu guest peneliti dari FAO Rebecca Foelber (US) Distrcit D3400 untuk pertama kalinya menyelenggarakan District Board Change Over (BCO). BCO ini menandai pengalihan masa tugas dari PDRR Anastasia Tutik yang sekarang diemban oleh DRR A.W Budi Wibowo Acara yang mengambil tempat di sebuah Villa di Kaliurang atas berlangsung sederhana, khidmat dan jelaasss… penuh gojek kere. Diawali dengan sedikit sharing dari PDRR Tutik mengenai apa arti menjadi sebuah leader dan juga apa arti sebuah pengabdian Rotaract lalu dilanjutkan oleh DRR Budi memaparkan sedikit program kerja dan apa yang hendak dilakukan ke depanya. BCO ini ditandai resmi dengan pemotongan tumpeng oleh PDRR Tutik yang diserahkan kepada

Setelah acara BCO dan makan-makan tumpeng selesai (nyiapin tumpengnya berjamjam disambi kurang tidur, ngabisin tumpengnya cuma 20 menit weleh… weleh…) acara dilanjutkan dengan sharing PDRR Tutik yang baru pulang dari Belgia dalam rangka GSE (Global Study Exchange).

Setelah semua rangkaian acara selesai, kita melanjutkan dengan acara… jalan-jalan ! Menengok bunker gunung merapi dan jalur lelehan lava merapi menjadi penutup yang cukup manis di hari minggu yang cerah itu. [/and]

RAC Yogyakarta Malioboro BCO Bertempat di Bosche Resto di Jalan Magelang, Sleman, Yogyakarta, Rotary Yogyakarta Malioboro dan Rotaract Yogyakarta Malioboro menyelenggarakan hajatan BCO-nya sendiri setelah sebelumnya menggelar BCO Distrik Malam Selasa 14 Juli tersebut RACYM datang dengan formasi cukup lengkap. Apresiasi patut diberikan kepada Rtc. Wike Paranggi dan Rtc. Heirwid yang menyempatkan diri datang menjelang keberangkatan mereka ke lokasi KKN.

Brainwriting Session Tanggal 14 July 2009 kemarin, Rotaract of Yogyakarta Malioboro mencoba mengadakan sesi brainstorming untuk anggotanya. Menggunakan salah satu teknik brainstorming yaitu brainwriting, Rotaracters diminta untuk mengeluarkan gagasan-gagasan untuk program-program untuk board ke depan. Teknik brainwriting pada dasarnya meminta orang untuk menuliskan idenya tanpa berbicara sama sekali. Teknik ini dilakukan dengan cara: • • • •

Setiap orang duduk dalam meja atau ruangan yang sama. Kertas kosong disediakan untuk setiap orang di tengah meja atau ruangan. Masalah yang akan dipecahkan dijelaskan terlebih dahulu oleh fasilitator. Setelah sesi dimulai, setiap orang akan menulis ide atau memberi sketsa (gambar, ide, dll sekreatif mungkin yang dianggap berkaitan) di kertas kosong. Masing-masing orang mengembalikan kertas yang mereka pegang ke tengah meja dan mengambil kertas orang lain. Mereka wajib membaca ide orang lain terlebih dahulu. Lalu menambah ide tersebut atau membangun ide baru berdasar ide orang lain yang berada di tanganya. Proses berlanjut sampai dirasa cukup

Guest Speaker: Taufik, pemilik apotek yang menerapkan konsep home-care Isu kesehatan menjadi isu yang dominan dalam kehidupan manusia kontemporer. Peningkatan kualitas hidup adalah tujuan yang sering kali disebut-sebut dalam isu kesehatan

ini. Berangkat dari pemikiran tersebut, RACYM mengundang seorang anak muda yang berpenampilan simpatik bernama Taufik untuk menjadi guest speaker di meeting RACYM 28 Juli kemarin. Bersama dengan teman-temanya yang total berjumlah lima orang, Taufik mendirikan sebuah apotik yang boleh dikatakan terobosan di Yogyakarta. Apotik “Almira” yang ia dirikan menawarkan konsee home-care kepada konsumenya. Apotek ini tak hanya duduk diam menunggu orang yang membutuhkan untuk membeli obat atau untuk menebus resep. Mereka menawarkan jasa untuk perawatan home-care dalam pengobatan ke pasien. Apotekerapoteker ini akan datang ke rumah para pasien untuk mendapat pemahaman yang lebih mendalam tentang kondisi pasien dan lingkunganya. Cara ini, kata Taufik, diyakini lebih nguwongke (memanusiakan) para pasienya dan lebih efektif dalam proses penyembuhan.

Dalam diskusi yang dimoderatori oleh VP Thomas Aquino ini terkuak fakta lain yang menarik, walaupun home-care berkonotasi dengan pelayanan yang sophisticated dan pasien yang ditanganinya juga sophisticated, Taufik justru menerapkan konsep ini di pinggiran kota Yogyakarta yang notabene penduduknya bukan pasien yang sophisticated. Konsep yang terkesan canggih ini justriu dapat dicerna dengan baik oleh pasien-pasien di pinggiran kota. Taufik mengaku dengan cara ini margin apotik yang ia jalankan bisa berada diatas rata-rata Apotek lain. [/and]

Rotaract Newswire club per year for 3 years. Although this has been a challenging year on the frontlines of polio eradication, we have seen some encouraging signs. As of 5 May, India had reported only 40 cases of polio as compared to 216 at the same time last year. We have also seen a decline in the number of type 1 polio cases in Kano, Nigeria, once the epicenter of the country’s type 1 polio outbreak, thanks to renewed political commitment in Kano to polio eradication.

The campaign to End Polio Now — Rotary’s top priority — received another significant boost from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation last year. At the International Assembly, Bill Gates announced that his foundation was giving Rotary a grant of US$255 million for polio eradication in addition to the $100 million challenge grant received in 2007. This means Rotary now needs to raise $200 million to match this grant challenge. Response to the challenge has been tremendous. As of June 09, more than $90 million in cash, District Designated Fund allocations, and pledges had been received. Rotaractors, Interactors, Rotary Fellowships, and individual Rotarians have all contributed to the effort. Rotarians have come up with many creative fundraising ideas, a number of which involve the general public and promote awareness of the need to eradicate this disease. For example, Rotarians in more than 200 cities and villages in Switzerland raised over $669,000 by selling packets of sunflower seeds on National Day Against Child Paralysis. Rotaract has also contributed approximately US$43,300 as of 31st May 2009. This is a figure we can all be very proud of and sets us on the right track for the Rotaract US$100 per

Rotarian involvement was prominently featured in an Academy Award-nominated short documentary, The Final Inch at www.thefinalinch.org, which aired on HBO in April. This film chronicles the hallenges that health organizations and governments face during the final stages of polio eradication and eatures Rotarians immunizing children during a National Immunization Day in India. A number of Rotary clubs have arranged screenings of the film at theaters in their communities. Rotaract Preconvention For the second year in a row, the Rotaract Committee was invited to Rotary International Headquarters in Evanston, Illinois, USA. The RI staff provided essential information which enabled us to accomplish a great deal during our two day meeting. We made recommendations to the RI board and we also decided to issue a regular newsletter to keep Rotary Family members around the world upto-date on important information. We also created a Google Group to communicate with MDIO’s around the world and issued our first communication before we left Evanston. The committee also decided to encourage each Rotaract Club to help Rotary End Polio Now by contributing a minimum of $100 a year for the next three years.

based on input from districts with strong Rotaract programs • requests the President to consider sending a letter to District Governors encouraging them to help fund District Rotaract Representatives and other Rotaractors to attend the 2009 Rotaract Preconvention Meeting in Birmingham. In total we made 11 recommendations to the RI Board, 8 of which were approved. We also made 2 recommendations as a joint Youth and Young Adult Services Resource Group, 1 of which was approved. All of our recommendations are detailed below:

The Board amends the Standard Rotaract Club Constitution to reflect gender neutral language throughout the document. • requests the general secretary to collect information on Rotaract clubs interested in forming twin club relationships, similar to information already collected for Rotaract clubs interested in home hosting, and to include this information in the Worldwide Rotaract Directory. • requests the general secretary to examine clubs started by former Rotaractors to identify best practices and trends • develops a CD containing the main Rotaract publications for distribution to Rotaract Clubs • requests the general secretary to create a Rotaract district best practices document

• does not agree to produce the Guide for District Rotaract Representatives as a print publication.

Approved: The Board • Requests the General Secretary to develop a New Generations Exchange promotional brochure in 2009-2010 and approves a 20092010 budget allocation of US$1,100 for this purpose. During the year we also saw Rotaract spread to two new countries, Kazakhstan and Iceland. We welcome both of them. Rotaract now has clubs in 164 countries.
