News Release July 2009 IBR Crime Statistics 8/11/09 The Richardson Police Department released crime statistics today for Group A offenses (i.e. murder, sexual assault, robbery, assault, burglary, theft, and other crimes) recorded this year. Citizen initiated calls for police service during July 2009 totaled 4,747 compared to 4,664 for the same month in 2008, a 1.8% increase. The day of the week with the highest percentage of calls was Wednesday, which averaged 165 calls each week. Year to date there have been 32,760 citizen-initiated calls for service as compared to 32,235 the previous year, a 1.6% increase.

CRIME STATISTICS – July 2009 PAGE 2 2009 YEAR-TO-DATE JUVENILE SUMMARY: This year-to-date there were 210 juveniles taken into custody, compared to 163 last year. Of the 210 taken into custody this year, 191 (91%) were arrested for criminal offenses. Of the 191 juveniles taken into custody for criminal offenses, 139 (73%) were male and 52 (27%) were female. Of the 191 criminal juveniles arrested, 137 (72%) were first time criminal offenders and 102 (53%) were non-residents. Of the 70 runaway offenses reported this year, 25 (36%) were male and 45 (64%) were female.

STOLEN PROPERTY: This year-to-date estimated total value of property stolen was $7,210,232. Last year’s year-to-date total was $4,247,495. This represents a 70% increase in the value of property stolen. The total value of recovered stolen property so far this year is $2,275,160 as compared to last year’s total of $1,360,909 an increase of 67%. The number of vehicles stolen from other cities and recovered in Richardson year to date was 53 compared to 57 last year. This represents a 7% decrease.

TRAFFIC COLLISION SUMMARY (as recorded on CRB-3’s): There were a reported 140 motor vehicle collisions in the month of July. Year-to-date there has been a reported 1,102 motor vehicle collisions. This compares to 1,294 reported motor vehicle collisions last year. This represents a decrease of 192 (14.8%). The day of the week with the highest average number of collisions was Monday. Year-to-date there have been no traffic related fatalities.
