Biomass-based industries are a significant source of enterprise development, job creation and income generation in rural areas. Modern biomass energy is widely used in many developing countries as well as in parts of the industrialized world. With proper management backed by adherence to appropriate ecological practices, modern biomass can be a sustainable source of electricity as well as liquid and gaseous fuels. Biomass, therefore, is not only a vital source of energy for many today but is likely to remain an important source of energy in the future subject to its sustainable exploitation. Renewable Energy resources offer abundant opportunities for providing clean and sustainable energy for everyone. They are the answer to imminent fossil fuel shortages affecting electric power, heating and transportation needs. The technical potential for the utilization of renewable energy is nearly 20 times greater than current global energy demand. Yet, today renewable energy only provides 17% of the world's primary energy needs and traditional renewable energy use (biomass and large hydro) make up the greater share (9% and 5.7% respectively). New renewables such as wind and solar provide only 2% of total global primary energy consumption. That power generated by solar photovoltaics could provide 10,000 times more energy than the world currently uses. The renewable energy supply potential for our planet is 15,000 times as great as the annual consumption of nuclear and fossil energy. The efficient deployment of these renewable resources requires a removal of trade and investment barriers between countries. The goal is the electrical interconnection of regions with abundant renewable resources to those nations with the highest consumption. The progress has been made, the 2010 target of 21 % renewable electricity for EU corresponding to 22.1 % for EU15 will not be achieved under current policies and measures. Instead, currently implemented policies will probably result in a share of between 18 % and 19 % in 2010. In total, renewable energy accounted for about 15.2 % of total electricity generation in 2002. It has been identified that the main reason why the target is not being achieved is because the production of electricity from biomass has not been as high as initially foreseen. To ensure that biomass will contribute in the planned way to achieve the renewable energy goals for 2010 the European Commission presented an Biomass Action Plan4 in December 2005. This action plan sets out measures to increase the development of biomass energy from wood, wastes and agricultural crops by creating market-based incentives to its use and removing barriers to the development of the market.

The historical importance of biomass energy in Brazil is due to a set of factors, including (i) the size of the country and the availability of land, (ii) the adequacy of its weather, (iii) the availability and the low cost of the working force and, most important, (iv) the domain of biomass-production and biomass-conversion technologies in the agricultural and in the industrial sectors. The accomplishment of these conditions defines a potential biomass. Wood Chip is readily available and cheaper than mains gas and oil. Wood Chip is a renewable energy source. Wood Chip combustion is carbon neutral. Wood Fuel heating systems can be fully automated. Wood Fuel heating systems convert 90% of the fuel into usable heat energy. The advantages of Brazil Biomass Wood Chip Eucalyptus are: • it is cheap, often as cheap as logs and now cheaper than mains gas; • it is a standardised product with Europe wide quality standards in place;• fully automated, highly efficient boiler systems are available; • it can be made from a wide range of raw materials, often sourced locally. BRAZIL BIOMASS AND WOOD CHIPS FUEL BIOMASS Wood fuel has several environmental advantages over fossil fuel. The main advantage is that wood is a renewable resource, offering a sustainable, dependable supply. Other advantages include the fact that the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted during the burning process is typically 90% less than when burning fossil fuel. The principle economic advantage of wood biomass energy is that wood is usually significantly less expensive than competing fossil fuels. Wood chips can form a much more uniform fuel that can flow and can be fed to a boiler, gasifier or other conversion system as a steady flow using an auger feed or a conveyor. With a large surface area to volume ratio they can also be burned very efficiently. Wood fuel is a clean burning product manufactured from sustainably harvested forest stock, land clearing, lumber mills and clean post-industrial supplies. Wood fuels are manufactured and blended to the customer's requirements. BRAZIL BIOMASS WOOD PELLETS Wood Pellets are a form of compacted biomass in order to increase the density of the fuel and thus making it more economic to transport over longer distances. Most pellets are made from sawdust and ground wood chips, which are waste materials from trees used to make furniture, lumber, and other products. Resins and binders (lignin) occurring naturally in the sawdust hold wood pellets together, so they usually contain no additives. Other materials, like straw, corn, nut hulls and similar can also be used to produce pellets, but those are less common. Pellets are cylindrical in form and their typical dimensions are 5-6 mm in diameter and 15-25 mm in length. Features: 1) Raw material: Pellet fuel is made mainly of sawdust, shavings and fines leftover after processing trees for lumber and other wood products. At a pellet mill the material is dried, compressed, and formed into small eraser-sized bits.They are clean, pleasant smelling and smooth to touch. 2) Working principle: Adopts gear transition and makes pellets. The environmental benefits of Wood Pellets: Carbon Reduction-CO2 is taken from the atmosphere by trees during their life which is released back when burnt or during the natural process of decay. Even allowing for the carbon produced in planting harvesting sawing and transportation of timber and the manufacture and delivery of pellets, it is estimated that the net reduction in CO2 emissions is 90% better when comparing the use of Wood Pellets to Fossil Fuels. Wood Pellets are clean. Unlike most other fuels wood pellets are environment clean, when spilt they can be collected and used as fuel or compost, when burnt the ash produced can be used in the garden as a fertilizer. Wood is a renewable fuel. Never removes trees faster from the forest than it is added to by natural growth, modern plantation methods make it possible to plant and harvest forests within a 30 year cycle. Advantages of Bracatinga Wood Pellets - Brazil Biomass.. The primary environmental benefit of burning wood pellets is it does not contribute to climate changes through emissions of carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases. The net emission of carbon-dioxide is practically zero. Other emissions from wood pellets are low in relation to coal, oil and other fossil fuels. Emissions of nitrogen oxides are similar to fossil fuels, however emissions of sulfur dioxides are considerably lower. Easy and convenient to handle, even for those who live alone. Nothing is taken from the environment to create pellet fuel. Pellets are made from the residual sawdust from the lumber & furniture The burning of pellets is highly clean and produces extremely little residue. In some countries pellet appliances are exempt from smoke emission test requirements. Pellet stoves come in a number of models and sizes which are attractive and can fit in any home. Automatic feed systems mean you only have to fill the hopper every few days. Pellet appliances may be installed with zero or minimum clearance. Pellet fuel is not subject to world price variations like imported oil.

BRAZIL BIOMASS AND WOOD PELLETS BRACATINGA Bracatinga Ecological and Biomass Pellets. As a pioneer species, it established pure, dense stands throughout vast areas in Brazil’s Parana area after the native forests (Araucaria angustifolia) were cut and burned, indicating its reforestation potential. The tree is able to fix atmospheric nitrogen. . The product of our raw material is strictly related to small rural producers. For them, Bracatinga is a source of employment for family labor and a way of generating income, which promotes considerable improvement in the quality of life of the farmers and their families. The most common form of pellets are relatively small compressed particles, mostly occurring in cylinder form. They are made of different materials (wood, straw, husk etc.) and for different purposes (feed pellets, heating pellets etc.). Our focus is solely on biomass pellets for heating and energy purposes, which we differ between standardized wood pellets and industrial pellets. Wood pellet is a wood fuel, made by compressing untreated wood or wood residues into a cylinder form. There are different types of wood pellets varying in quality and utilization purpose. For high quality wood pellets specific standards exist. Those wood pellets that fulfil the strict norms DIN Norm 51731 or ÖNorm M7135 are normally used for small boilers in households.

BRAZIL BIOMASS WOOD PELLETS BRACATINGA The bracatinga cuts used in pellet production are authorized by the Brazilian environmental authorities. Bracatinga wood is mainly used for heat and energy production. It has been cultivated by mostly local farmers for private use, but recently gained increasing interest as suitable wood for pellet production.
