Describing Language (1A) Activity:

Language Acquisition and Development (1B) Students will be able to understand and apply concepts, theories, research, and practice to facilitate the acquisition of a primary and a new language in and out of classroom settings.
Activity: Students pretend to go around the world. A map would be put out, a passport will be created. Each student will read a book of that certain place they want to travel to. For example, Africa or Florida, they will read a book or go online to read about that place. When they are done visiting /reading their place they will report about their trip and passport will be
Cultural Groups and Identity (2B) Students will be able to know, understand, and use knowledge of how cultural groups and students’ cultural identities affect language learning and school achievement.
Activity: Each student with a different ethnic background will represent where they are from (Chuuk, CNMI, Guam, Yap, PI. Etc,) They are to cut out/print out pictures and facts about where they are from. Language, Custom, Culture, Food, Flag, People, House, Clothing, Education. Managing and Implementing Standards-Based ESL and Content Instruction (3B) Students will know, manage, and implement a variety of standardsbased teaching strategies and techniques for developing and integrating English listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and for accessing the core curriculum. Candidates support ESOL students in accessing the core curriculum as they learn language and academic
Activity: Students will create a newsletter on how schools can be improved. They will put topics together(Cafeteria food, supervision, playground equipment, etc.) Gather information by interviewing other students and staff and researching through internet. They will put interview response together by typing it on the computer and will create a newsletter to be distributed to students , parents, staff and faculty.
Using Resources Effectively in ESL and Content Instruction (3C) Students will be familiar with a wide range of standards-based materials, resources, and technologies, and choose, adapt, and use them in effective ESL and content teaching.
Activity: Students will do a scavenger hunt on trying to take pictures of the life cycle of a butterfly (egg, caterpillar, pupae, butterfly) around the school campus or at home. Then they will put it together in a slideshow and present their findings.
Classroom- Based Assessment for ESL (4C) Students will know and use a variety of performance-based assessment tools and techniques to inform instruction.
Activity: Students will perform a skit on a famous inventor. They will act out/imitate on the inventor as well as show the invention created and how it is helpful to today’s world. They will research about they inventors through the internet and other students will work the camcorder to record the skits.
