RE: PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SEMINAR

To Whom it May Concern: This is to confirm that Kennedy Krips attended a professional development seminar sponsored by Burman University’s School of Education Educators’ Guild. This seminar took place on the evening of November 15th, 2018. The seminar was presented by Kevin Kiers, Co-Chair of the Outward Pursuits program at Burman University. He presented on nature and incorporating it into the classroom. Kiers emphasizes the importance of incorporating outdoor education in a cross-curricular fashion. He enlightened the students on facts that show the correlation between being in nature and reduced anxiety levels. Children who are exposed to nature and physical activity are more likely to be active learners in the class and participate in learning activities. Kiers discussed how outdoor education promotes experiential and inquiry-based learning, where students can learn by doing and seeing. The underlying message of his lecture encouraged future teachers to teach with their passion - whether it be nature or another interest. Kiers provided the students with resources and examples as to how one could begin to incorporate nature in a classroom. Students who attended the seminar also benefited by interacting with the speaker and voicing any questions or concerns they had.

Sincerely, Melissa Barritt

President - Educators’ Guild
