During a visit to West Elementary School in Knoxville, Iowa, Vilsack congratulated the school on acheiveing "Gold" status in USDA's Healthier U.S. School C receive this designation, West Elementary School exceeded ex standards by providing healthier food choices, nutrition educa physical activity to it's students.
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack launched the National Instit and Agriculture (NIFA), October 8, with a major speech regard of science and research at USDA. At an event at the National with John Holdren, Assistant to the President for Science and Vilsack outlined his vision for addressing the some of the worl challenges over the coming decades. "The opportunity to truly transform a field of science happens a generation," Vilsack said. "Right now, I am convinced, is US opportunity to work with Congress, the other science agencies partners in industry, academia, and the nonprofit sector, to br transformative change."
NFU President Roger Johnson participated in an IATP and Acti briefing on international food reserves on October 15. The brie purpose was to review different initiatives, considering both th reserves and some of the new possibilities in this age of globa communications, transportation and storage infrastructure. Th focused on the potential and pitfalls of the reserve system as stabilize markets and to achieve the distinct but related goals national food security.
