Nate Radley began playing music professionally in Chicago while an undergraduate student in sociology at the University of Chicago. Deciding to pursue music full-time, Nate moved to Boston to study music at New England Conservatory where he studied with John Abercrombie, Bob Brookmeyer and Jerry Bergonzi. He also studied with composer George Russell and in 2000 was asked by the composer to lead a rare performance of his “Concerto for Two Guitars.” After earning his masters in music in 2000, Nate moved to New York City in 2003 where he currently resides. Nate leads his own trio and quartet and maintains membership in a variety of different ensembles including the Loren Stillman Organ Quartet, Kakalla, the Eric Rasmussen Tristano Project, a flute/guitar/drums trio called the Denominators, and the Gian Tornatore group. He has recorded and performed with a variety of jazz artists including Rick Margitza, Mark Turner, Donny McCaslin, Greg Osby, John Hollenbeck, Seamus Blake, Jeff Ballard, Cuong Vu, Matt Wilson, Antonio Sanchez and George Garzone. Nate has performed throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe and at major jazz festivals including the North Sea Jazz Festival and the Montreal International Jazz Festival. In 2005 Nate was named one of the winners of the ASCAP young jazz composers competition and has been described by John Kelman of AllAboutJazz.com as “an emerging player to watch.”
