Narrative Report (First Day of Remediation) Our first day remediating our student-aid, Kimberly Madria was held on Sunday. We started at exactly 10 in the morning and end at 11:53 A.M. We decided that, Ms. Nhowellyn Samar will be our remediator for the whole session. We agreed upon on this because we believed that if we are all teaching Kimberly she will lose her focus and won’t maintain the equilibrium in learning. As Ms. Samar started teaching Kimberly, she begin with giving her words that is in the content of the story. We first gave her unfamiliar words and the meaning of those words. Afterwards, they read the story. After reading, Ms. Samar asked her to retell the story in her own words even in Tagalog-English language. At frist she’s having a hard time retelling the story but as Ms. Samar guide her she can catch up with the story little by little until she finished retelling the story. Then, we told her that we are going to have a spelling. The first spelling that we had, she only got four scores. But this time, we asked her to write it twice before we begin the spelling. And this time. She got a perfect score. So we thought that this strategy is an effective one.
After having the spelling we gave her time to relax for 15 minutes. And afterwards she will be answering the comprehension questions. She honestly told us that she is having a hard time comprehending the questions. Ms. Samar told her to just go on and try answering it first. As Ms. Samar noticed she is looking for the answer on the story they have read. Later on, Kimberly approached Ms. Samar that she really doesn’t understand some questions. So by this time Ms. Samar help her comprehending the questions but she will just only explain the question but not the answer. Ms. Samar still tries to help her to come up with the answer. At the end of the remediation we thanked Kimberly for cooperating with us. We discovered that Kim wasn’t really hard to teach and is a good listener. She is very willing to cooperate with us and as we can observed she also is willing to learn. Thus, that is the very first we need in teaching the learner. She wants to start within herself. Because learning is an active process. No one learns for you except yourself.
