DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION REGION III DIVISION OF CITY SCHOOLS DISTRICT IV ISLA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CABANATUAN CITY
NARRATIVE REPORT NATIONAL DRUG EDUCATION PROGRAM
According to Oxford Dictionaries, a drug is a medicine or other substance which has a physiological effect when ingested or otherwise introduced into the body; therefore drug addiction can cause many longterm negative consequences, including physical health problems. Indirect long-term effects of drug addiction include broken relationships, legal problems, financial problems, injuries, and poor overall health. In view of the urgent need of the drug prevention education, last August 17, 2018 , Isla Elementary School took part in the campaign of the Department of Education in the implementation of the National Drug Education Program (NDEP) which aims to prevent drug abuse among students through the development of desirable values, attitudes and practices. Different activities were conducted to raise awareness on the part of the teachers, parents and pupils, about the unscrupulous effect of drug overuse and addiction. A symposium was held in the morning and spearheaded by Ma’am Dianny A. Galdores, School’s Science Coordinator. She used Audio-Visual Presentations to show the harmful effects of drug misuse. She also highlighted the social, emotional and physical dangers of abuse of illegal drugs. More importantly the legal responsibility and liability of users and pushers were discussed. In the afternoon, the intermediate pupils interpreted the “Bawal na Gamot” song popularized by Willy Garte. The pupil’s involvement in the drug abuse campaign is a necessary step because they play an important part in helping stop the spread of illegal drugs in our country Cliché as it may sound but “prevention is always better than cure.”
