IMPORTANCE OF COKE IN IRON & STEEL INDUSTRY

# Coke is a major input factor in blast furnace which accounts for around 60% of hot metal cost.

# The major function of COKE Ovens is to convert coal Into coke Which act as a fuel as well as a reducing agent in Blast furnace. # Secondary to remove volatile matter & coke oven gases which are used for heating purpose in the plant.

CONVERSION OF COAL INTO COKE Coke is made by heating coal in absence of air in a series of ovens called BATTERIES . This process is generally known as Carbonization / Destructive distillation of coal . August 29, 2008
