Frida Kahlo was born on July 6, 1907 in Coyocoan, Mexico City, Mexico. Frida Kahlo has two older sisters and one younger sister. She contracted polio at age of 6. Frida Kahlo attended the renowned National Preparatory School in Mexico city in year of 1922. In 1922 she traveled on a bus the tragic accident happened - the bus collided with a streetcar. In 1932, Kahlo added more realistic and surrealistic components in her painting style. Her health condition has been worsening in 1950. She was a Mexican artist. She painted many portraits, self-portraits and works inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico. In 1928 she married with Diego Rivera. The accident killed several people and fractured Kahlo's ribs, both her legs and her collarbone. Kahlo's right leg was amputated at the knee due to gangrene in August 1953. Self-Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird, was painted by Frida Kahlo in 1940. A bird is often symbolize freedom and life. The black cat symbol of bad luck and death. A monkey was a gift from her husband, symbol of the devil. The butterflies was ​hope for a new life. The natural landscape, which normally symbolizes fertility. The thorn necklace could allude to Christ’s crown of thorns, thus likening herself to a Christian martyr, and representing the pain and anguish.
