Well, America has made her choice. The unfortunate side of democracy is that the majority rules, and the rest of us live with the result. Our great Country has been looking over the edge for quite some time, and on November 5th, 51% decided to jump. The other 49% of us are tied to that first group. We have two choices; get pulled over and fall off the cliff of Liberty into the chasm of tyranny and socialism, or dig in our heels and pull for all we’re worth! I, and most of my friends, are willing to hold the line. The physics problem is that the other end of the rope has more weight. The “Pied Piper of Change” fooled the majority of my countrymen into following him happily down into the gorge. Those of us who remain

up top have vowed to resist (we don’t “believe”)…but our heels are inevitably going to be drug toward the precipice. As in any tug of war, the victory will go, not necessarily to the majority, but to those who fight hardest; those who sweat and strain, and persevere. We’ve dug in our heels, and now we need to put our backs into it! We have to pull 51% (or more) of this country’s population back from the abyss. By doing so, we save ourselves, and our posterity as well. To those who say we will fail, I remind you, a few “farmers with well worn muskets” defeated the world’s greatest Empire once. To my brothers, I cry: “Heave!”

Before I begin, let me get this out of the way; I am not a racist. Don’t even try to use that tactic on me. For weeks, I have heard journalists, Democrats, church goers, Republicans, Atheists, Gays,

teachers, truck drivers, and liger owners talk about “what a historic day this is! Look how far this country has come to elect a black man to the office of President of the United States.” I agree that this is a historic occasion. History was made on Nov. 4,

2008 in a big way. It had nothing to do, however, with the color of Barak Obama’s skin. We, the voters of the United States of America, elected the first, openly Socialist politician to the highest seat in our Union. Continued on page 2

By Derek Stephens The word “socialism” has become a common part of the American vernacular as of late, in no small part due to the political policies of President Barack Obama. I find that a lot of people who bandy about the term can’t really define it, however, or confuse it with its more mature brother, communism. Socialism is the political theory espoused by Karl Marx (though I would credit the 19th century French and English Cooperative movement with the idea), and is a transitional form of government. It is meant to transition capitalist societies to communism. Socialist economic theory advocates state

Some were complimentary, others were curious, and most who received it appeared to be non-responsive. Compliments are always welcomed, curiosity allows for some education, but the nonresponsives (sic) worry me. I do not think it was apathy on most individual’s part. I am reminded about something

(government) or collective ownership and administration of the collection and distribution of goods and services. It strives for an egalitarian or “equal” society. Socialists believe that capitalism is “unfair”, that power and wealth will only be held by those willing to work hard to get it. Socialism is not a “hand up”, but a “handout”. It destroys free agency, and places “citizens” in the terrible position of having to choose either to work simply to support others, or, leeching off the work of others. Guess which most people will choose? I know, history has already answered that question thousands of times. C o n t i n u e d

It is the inquisitive, and non-spoken, curious cats that I would like to address in this column. I cannot speak for the other authors of “The Muster Drum,” only for myself when I answer the question of

“Why.” Why am I doing this? Let me begin by answering the antithesis. I am not speaking out on these issues to gain favor with my neighbors (heaven forbid, but quite the opposite could transpire). I am not doing this to get rich (there are no fees, hidden costs or pyramid schemes involved here. In fact, all funding is coming directly from our own pockets). Finally, I am not writing for this newsletter because I am bored C o n t i n u e d

and have nothing better to do with my time (I own and run two business, am heavily involved with church activities, family life, etc., etc., etc.). No, the best way to describe why I am sacrificing my time to write for, produce, and distribute this newsletter is that I just feel the need. I grew up in a politically active home. I have always felt a love for, and a desire to do what I can to uphold the values that this great nation espouses. However, I have recently watched helplessly as our country has cast off her traditional values and fallen deeper into the pit of wickedness and socialism. The past three years have brought to me an even stronger, and more pressing, innercall to stop just observing and do something. Something (or more accurately, Someone) is just moving me and I cannot ignore the tugging anymore. Recently, I have spent every spare moment, reading about and educating myself on important, foundational topics. I find myself constantly drawn to The Constitution, The Declaration of Independence, The Federalists and Anti-Federalist

Papers, History books, and anything the Founding Fathers wrote or studied themselves. The more I educate myself on what this Country should be, the more I realize that this Country is no longer. That realization is both startling, enraging, and empowering all at once. I feel sorry for what we have lost, but feel the war is not over, and I must rise up and do my part! Just as the Revolutionary War was won, not at Bunker Hill, or the North Bridge of Concord, or even on the Lexington Green, but in the forests, homes, fields, and hiding places between those historic places; I believe the war to win back our freedoms and liberties will be won at the grassroots level. This is just one of my many weapons in this war. What is yours? I think our Constitution is hanging as it were by a thread, but I believe with all of my soul that Patriots like you and I will rise up and save it. We must save it! Friends, it is time to save our Constitution, save our Liberties, and preserve the Nation that God Himself called a “Promised Land.” I invite you to join us!

Next time you hear about the “redistribution of wealth” and “universal” health care, remember, there is no free lunch. It means that those who don’t want to work will now be eating off of your plate, comrade. Oh, I almost forgot, what does “A tale of two cows” have to do with this article? Well, my mother explained the differences between Capitalism, Socialism, and Communism to me this way:

Socialism means that if you have two cows, the government takes one and gives it to someone who doesn’t have one. Communism means that the government takes both your cows, and gives you a little milk. Capitalism means you have the right to sell one of your cows and buy a bull!
