DOTARS AVIATION SECURITY TRAINING & ASSESSMENT RESOURCES PROJECT BACKGROUND: Swinburne University of Technology TAFE was successful in gaining a contract from the Department of Transport and Regional Services to develop Aviation Security Training & Assessment Resources to complement the Aviation Security Training Framework. Production of materials for 17 competencies is to be undertaken over 8 months from March to October.

INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN/MULTI MEDIA PROJECT OFFICERS: THE JOB/s: •

Instructional Design role • Ability to identify opportunities to enhance a print-based resource • Ability to identify authentic interactive learning activities • Map these activities to the ASTF competencies • Develop project briefs for the multimedia developer(s) • Work closely with developers to ensure resources development meet competency requirements



Multimedia Developer(s) • Ability to develop engaging interactive learning activities • Ability to work to a brief as described by the instructional designer • Knowledge of the SCORM packaging guidelines and the ability to produce SCORM compliant Learning Objects • Suggested Development environments o xHTML 1.0 transitional for content o CSS 1/2 for design/layout o Flash for interactivity. o The use of sound is encouraged, but recognition needs to be given to the fact the the audience for this content may be in a noisy work environment and/or have poor internet connectivity. o SCORM for content packaging • Suggested interactivity types o Computer marked quizzes o Simulated/situated environments o Digital Story Telling • Potential delivery environments o All materials developed should be able to deployed and tracked within a Learning Management System o Via CDROM for low/no bandwidth environments o Via an organisational intranet

Instructional design (see ps 28-29 of Service Agreement) Development of electronic resources to enhance Learner Guides, Facilitator Guides and Training Management Plans as follows: Interactive learning objects On-line test banks/self check quizzes/images for assessing screening etc. Digital stories and/or simulations to support case study materials Powerpoint presentations for Facilitators Standardised assessment record or a template for recording assessment outcomes specific to a competency to be kept by organisation Trainee record book to be used by individuals and assessors for recording assessment outcomes. Flash cards (hard copy product with no more than 5 sets) CD Rom production

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS: Electronic copies of resources are to be provided on CD (in a format that enables airlines and airports with intranet and computer technology to upload and adapt the Training Resources for use with their existing training systems and resources. The resiources must use design features that minimise download time and ioffer connectivity through a range of computer hardware and peripherals (where appriopriate be SCORM compliant).

THE PROCESS: A number of writers, for hard copy resources, have been employed to work collaboratively with Swinburne’s Aviation Security Adviser and DOTARS nominated industry representatives. Multi-media enhancements will be mapped to ASTF competency units by the end of March/early April. Templates that are graphically designed and comply with DOTARS brand and style requirements to also be developed by end of March/early April. Multi-media development is to commence in April and continue to September. SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS may include:
