Charmey De Leon Professor Prasad ENGL2-10 24 March 2019 MSE Proposal For my multiple source essay, I have chosen my topic to be about ocean pollution. Specifically, I have chosen plastic waste in the ocean. Being a California resident my whole life, the beaches and ocean play a role in my life. By having beaches being half an hour to one hour away from home, ocean life is not only a factor in my life but it is also important to me. It has always intrigued me on how calming, beautiful, and especially unique the ocean is and its living organisms are. Before deciding my major, I was weighing three main options that I have found interesting throughout the course of my life and becoming marine biologist was one of them. I have always cared and had a great passion for ocean life. By seeing all the plastic wastes that are floating near the shore and videos about animals suffering from the plastic, it completely breaks my heart. These beautiful sea animals’ lives are at risk due to the overwhelming plastic that is surrounding their home. By visiting the Hawaiian Islands every year, the comparison to how the residents treat the animals and the ocean to Californians sparked my interest and understanding towards the situation.
