Montalvo Appoints Angela McConnell Executive Director Silicon Valley nonprofit professional brings arts and fundraising leadership to multidisciplinary arts center
SARATOGA, Calif. Montalvo Arts Center is pleased to announce that its Board of Trustees has named Angela McConnell as Executive Director. McConnell comes to Montalvo with more than 15 years of senior leadership experience in diverse nonprofit organizations, most recently at the Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA) in Mountain View, Calif. McConnell arrives at Montalvo as the organization continues to expand its portfolio of programming for the community and greater Bay Area. Historically known as a concert and wedding venue, and for its internationally recognized artist residency program, over the last few years Montalvo has tailored its mission and artistic programs to foster community engagement through the creation and presentation of multidisciplinary art. This year, Montalvo has partnered with Live Nation to bring a series of popular music concerts to the renowned Garden Theatre, and in 2012 Montalvo will celebrate its centennial. Charmaine Warmenhoven, president of the Montalvo Board of Trustees, said, “McConnell was selected in large part due to her successful experience managing noted nonprofit arts organizations and because of her familiarity with the Bay Area and partnering organizations. Under her leadership, Montalvo will continue to build its reputation as the preeminent multidisciplinary arts center, serving the local community and representing Silicon Valley to the world.” McConnell, whose experience in the nonprofit sector resulted in success and prosperity for a number of organizations, is poised to provide even greater direction and growth opportunities for Montalvo. Previously the executive director of CSMA, McConnell directed a $12.4 million capital campaign, which led to the construction of the organization’s first permanent facility and established CSMA as one of the 10 largest community schools of its kind in the United States. Earlier, McConnell was the chief development officer at the San Jose Museum of Art, where she managed a $3.5 million annual giving program and established the museum’s first endowment. “Montalvo is an historic national resource with an extraordinary legacy, a compelling and valuable artistic mission, and loyal, generous constituents,” McConnell said. “It is absolutely a privilege for me to serve this dedicated board and committed staff by providing leadership and vision to ensure Montalvo’s vibrant and promising future.” The Montalvo Board of Trustees serves as the governing body for Saratoga-based nonprofit Montalvo Arts Center. For a complete list of board members, please see the Trustees page of our Web site.
