Moneyball Michael Lewis
Strategy
Moneyball is a non-fiction book about how a GM took a different approach in creating a good team. I believe his strategy is to inform you of a bunch of different information and background to show you why the Oakland A’s bought into the more of logical and strategic approach rather than instinct. He bounced in and out of a story, and balanced it out with concepts and strategies they used to build their team. Some examples are the chapter names themselves. Chapter 1, The Curse of Talent, focuses on Billy Beane who was a high school phenomenon, and focused on his particular path and mistakes. Then, chapter 2, How to Find a Ballplayer, focuses on certain things you should look for in a player.
Purpose
The purpose of this book was I feel to bring awareness towards the shift of strategy when it comes to the game of baseball. It is America’s pastime, and has been the same for a long time, at least until manager Billy Beane wanted to try something new.
Some examples In this text, the main focus is building a team based on a strategy never used before. It uses lots of examples of things that they search for in players vs. what other teams are looking for.
Effect on the Reader It made the book really easy to understand. Although at certain points it was hard to follow, at the end of the book, everything comes together and makes sense.
Speaker The speaker in this book is Michael Lewis. He did it almost from a biography point of view. He did a nice job of describing the situations and challenges they faced very well.
