Model Essay Plan What is required, is an introduction following the model essay introduction sheet, a number of points that will show what you are going to argue (an example is below) and at least five resources in a reference list that will show you have done some preliminary research towards the essay topic. This example would only come to about 350 words if all five references were written in – some last year approached 650 words. What matters in not the word length but that you turn in a similar plan (which would indicate you’ve thought enough to be able to build an argumentative essay from your own perspective). This is only worth 10% of your mark and is solely for the purpose of providing some feedback and ensuring you don't address the essay as a last minute piece of work.

1. Introduction Bronwyn Bishop recently chaired a Family and Human Services Inquiry into illicit drug use and its' impact on families. The inquiries report, The Winnable War on Drugs, was released on 13 September. In this essay, I ask, is Bronwyn Bishop mentally unstable. This is an important issue to address because, as chair of a parliamentary inquiry, Ms Bishop is in a position that has significant influence over the formation of policy that affects millions of lives. I will address the question by, firstly examining the radical nature of the recommendations made by the aforementioned report. I will then turn to her previous parliamentary record before, finally, examining the psychological issues that are made apparent by such irresponsible consumption of hairspray in today's environmentally sensitive society. In doing so, I will be arguing that Bronwyn Bishop is, indeed, unstable and in serious need of a parliamentary pension and involuntary admission to the appropriate mental health facilities.

2. Key Claims 1. I will examine the report and its recommendations, looking at the lack of evidence to sustain them. 2. I will examine the impact of these recommendations were they to be implemented.

3. I will look at past contributions to public debate such as her call to ban the burqua in Australian school; 4. I will document the use of ozone-unfriendly products to maintain a hairstyle that is, environmentally unfriendly to say the least. 5. Conclusion – A succinct restatement of major claims and an explicit restating of your central argument – e.g., that Bronwyn Bishop is mentally unstable and requires immediate admission to the nearest secure mental health facility.
