The Organization: BRIEF HISTORY The Mindanao Business Information and Office Services (MIND-BIOS), Inc. was organized by senior faculty and staff of MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology in April 1999. MIND-BIOS, Inc. is a stock corporation duly registered with the S.E.C. in December 1999 (Registration No. H199900645). Our mission is to advance, and share with our people, our knowledge and expertise in the transfer of appropriate technologies and good business management practices that foster economic democracy and ensure the sustainable use of resources. Hence, our goal is to provide a complete package of technical assistance to the formation, viable operation and sustained growth of eco-friendly micro, small and medium enterprises in Mindanao that are owned and managed by local stakeholders. LOCAL DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY Our flagship business investments in the medium term focuses on linking the rural and urban sectors and the socio-cultural communities of Mindanao into a common framework for cooperative marketing and other mutual support in overall business formation and growth. Our strategy towards penetrating and establishing our niches in the national and export markets is to bring together the selling power of local producers and the buying power of local consumers of Mindanao. Our strategic entry points in local/regional business development are: • local rural-urban ("rurban") counter-trading of basic commodities and services adopting e-commerce technology; and • child and adult learning centers in “rurban” villages for computer and livelihood education. • The latter shall double as our community-based enterprise development centers and business offices throughout Mindanao. Harnessing the power of e-

commerce, we shall work towards the establishment of the First Mindanao Commodity Futures Exchange in order to provide our small producers better

access to direct buyers, facilitate the pooling of our outputs to meet large volume demands, and, in the end, derive better terms of trade. These strategic enterprises we shall develop as subsidiary or affiliate corporations in close cooperation with local communities, individuals, enterprises, local government units and other entities that shall share in the ownership, management and profits of these businesses. As we build up our capital, we shall, together with our "rurban" village associates, endeavor to build our home and community-based industries. All this to empower our own people in Mindanao to compete effectively in the global market, fully realizing that we can do this only if we undertake our business development endeavors together. SERVICES OFFERED • Market and investment opportunities research, process technology adaptation and product development, trade and investment promotion program planning

MAJOR RECENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS MIND-BIOS has packaged small agri-business project plans anchored on eco-friendly technologies that are ready for commercial application under the Partnerships in Local Enterprise Development and Governance Sustainability (PLEDGES) Program. An integrated local development strategy to reduce poverty and hunger and improve the fiscal and services delivery capacity of local government units (LGUs), this package of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) focuses on the most basic needs: potable water, power and electricity, livelihood and non-traditional community learning systems.

MIND-BIOS principals assisted the MSU System in 2004 in preparing its business plan for Agro-forestry Resource Centers in partnership with the Department of Agrarian Reform. In 2005, MIND-BIOS provided technical support and joint-venture capital to a coconut micro-processing project at Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur. This involved designing, fabrication and/or testing of biomass-fired stoves and dryers and small equipment for virgin coconut oil and other processed foods. Building on this experience, MIND-BIOS supports, as a joint venture partner, the village-scale coconut processing plant of Touareg Corporation now in commercial operation at Naawan, Misamis Oriental. In partnership with SOPREX Foundation, MIND-BIOS provided secretariat and office/transport support services to the following donor-funded projects: • Barangay Justice Service System (BJSS) of the Gerry Roxas Foundation with funding from the USAID from April 2001 to the present with area assignments in

Iligan City, Lanao del Norte (Linamon, Pantao-Ragat, Munai, Kolambugan, Tubod, Baroy, Lala) and Lanao del Sur (Wao, Bumbaran, Ganassi). • Leadership Enhancement and Development (LEAD) for Health of the Management Sciences for Health with funding from the USAID; areas of deployment were
