2 Before we talk about what looks like a coming world war III in the first part of the battle of Armageddon - as we see a tiny hint of in the article and headlines of the newspapers on page one [as well as in the books of Joel, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Amos, etc.], let’s talk about the Bible verse at the top of that page - to see what the drying up of the river Euphrates has to do with the way of the kings of the earth being “prepared.” What are they “prepared” for? Will “bunker busting” nuclear bombs, suitcase nuclear bombs, regular nuclear bombs, or electromagnetic pulse nuclear bombs from other nations be involved? We also see three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the beast, the dragon, and the false prophet - who gather the kings of the earth and the whole world “to the battle of that great day of God almighty.” Faith: What does the drying up of the river Euphrates mean? Does the river Euphrates represent anything, or is Revelation 16:12 referring to the literal Euphrates river that runs through Iraq - where they are fighting now? Hope: It says that the three unclean spirits like frogs go to the kings of the earth to gather them to this great battle of God almighty. Why do they do that? Is there a particular thing that causes them to do it? Charity: This verse in Revelation 16 is describing one of the seven last plagues. They haven’t happened yet. How can we learn what these things in Revelation mean? Do we find the symbols in Revelation explained in other parts of the Bible, like Daniel? Pastor Jan: Yes. In my last letter, I gave you the reference where God’s prophet reveals that the books of Daniel and Revelation “are one.” Faith: Who or what is it that dries up the river Euphrates in the 6th plague? Pastor Jan: From the verse, we see that it will be dried up after the angel pours out his vial upon it. Exhibit #3 Hope: Will the literal river Euphrates in Iraq dry up, or is it symbolic of anything? And who are the kings of the east that will be “prepared” by the drying up of the river? What is this great battle that the kings of the earth are gathered to by the demons? What great event precipitates all this? What does it all have to do with our beloved United States, and with our beloved church, and with our beloved homes, and with our beloved families, and with our beloved selves? Pastor Jan: Are you ready? Here we go. In Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 193, it tells us that when Jacob left Laban, to go back to the land of his father, he, with his flocks, herds, “wives, children, and servants, crossed the Euphrates.” How could they all do that? His flocks and herds numbered in the thousands. Was the river small enough for them to walk or swim across it? Here’s more about the river “For a time the descendants of Noah continued to dwell among the mountains where the ark had rested. As their numbers increased, apostasy soon led to division. Those who desired to forget their Creator and to cast off the restraint of His law felt a constant annoyance from the teaching and example of their God-fearing associates, and after a time they decided to separate from the worshipers of God. Accordingly they journeyed to the plain of Shinar, on the banks of the river Euphrates. . . . Here they decided to build a city, and in it a tower of such stupendous height as should render it the wonder of the world.” Conflict and Courage, p. 42. In this reference we learn that the Tower of Babel and the city of Babylon were on the banks of this river. Now, let’s learn a little more about the significance of the Euphrates “Through the folly and weakness of Belshazzar, the grandson of Nebuchadnezzar, proud Babylon was soon to fall. Admitted in his youth to a share in kingly authority, Belshazzar gloried in his power and lifted up his heart against the God of heaven. . . He had known of his grandfather’s banishment, by the decree of God, from the society of men; and he was familiar with Nebuchadnezzar’s conversion and miraculous restoration.
