Two major routes of synthesis: a)
Direct creation of micro- and nano- level surface roughness on hydrophobic substrates like (Teflon) or polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)
b)
Production of a rough surface and coating it with low surface energy materials

Presence of a superhydrophobic layer on the surface of the glass. Water forms beads which roll away easily carrying away dirt with them. Thin transparent layer of Titanium dioxide photolytically oxidizes organic dirt particles. A different technique involves a layer-by-layer deposition of silica nano-particles of differing sizes on the glass.

" Time requirement for cleaning is large. Titania-based textiles have to deal with the problem of degradation. Textile properties like mechanical strength must be retained. Texture and feel of the garments should not change. Oil repellency properties should be included.
