MEDICATION NURSE ASSISTANT A.
REPORTING REQUIREMENT The Medication Nurse Assistant (MNA) works under the supervision of an RN or LPN and reports to the Director of Assisted Living.
B.
GENERAL SCOPE The MNA position is designed for a Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) who has at least two years of full time employment as an LNA and who has completed an approved Medication Nurse Assistant Training Program. The MNA’s primary responsibility is the administration of medications to Assisted Living Residents.

Works in a safe manner at all times. Follows all policies and standards required by Taylor Community. Follows physician orders and administers regularly scheduled oral, topical, suppository, otic, nasal, and ocular medications to Assisted Living Residents who are clinically stable. Consults with the Nurse Manager to assess a Resident who requests a “prn” (as needed) medication. Reports to Nurse Manager observations regarding changes in Resident’s status. Observes the five rights of medication administration.

Ensures that Residents’s medication cabinets/drawers contain only currently prescribed medications. Destroys outdated and discontinued medications with the Director of Assisted Living. Ensures that Residents’s medications are re-ordered in a timely fashion and are available for scheduled and prn administration. Transcribes physician orders and submits to Nurse Manager for review before implementation. Follows standard precautions. Adheres to duties and responsibilities as outlined in LNA job description. Completes any other duties as assigned and within the Resident Assistant job description.

Ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Visual and aural acuity to detect changes in conditions of Residents and to read and recognize written medication orders and Medication Administration Records. (MARs). Ability to communicate and comprehend information to and from others verbally and in writing.

Medication Nurse Assistant (MNA) licensed by the State of New Hampshire. One year’s experience in long-term care is preferred.
