MEDIA CIRCUIT AT CPP: Magnetite is used as media for gravity separation of coal at CPP, Chasnalla. Fine Magnetite heaps are washed and the water-magnetite solution is fed to sump pump which then delivers this solution to a dilute tank. The magnetite solution in dilute tank is fed to two cyclones through a pump (dilute pump). Overflow from the cyclones is directly sent to into a thickener (media thickener). Underflow from the cyclones is fed to a primary separator which extracts magnetite from the solution. The product from primary separator is sent to media thickener while the reject from primary separator is fed to secondary separator. Magnetite recovered from secondary separator is also sent to media thickener while reject is fed back to dilute tank. The overflow from media thickener is fed to distribution chambers (02 Nos) through wilfley pumps for storage and use. Media from distribution chambers is fed to bath tanks to increase or decrease specific gravity as per requirement by manually operating outlet valves of distribution chambers. Similarly, both bath tanks are provided with valves for fresh water supply for increase/decrease of specific gravity. Usually, specific gravity is measured manually every hour and based on the reading, valves of distribution chamber and bath tank are operated for increasing or decreasing gravity of bath tank. The objective is to automate this process where specific gravity of the bath is measured automatically in fixed time intervals and based on the readings, the valves of distribution chambers and bath tanks need to be turned on till the set gravity value of the bath is achieved.
