Stuck in China!! Help! We’re staying in China and cannot get around all these natural barriers. How far would we have to go to get out?? Using a ruler and the scale, answer the questions below.
1. We find ourselves in Shanghai and the Pacific Ocean seems impossibly big to cross. Llet’s head across the Yellow Sea towards North and South Korea. About how far would we have to swim to get to the tip?_________________________________________________________________________________ 2. Swimming was too difficult, but we can cross the grassy plains pretty easily. How many miles would we walk to get from Shanghai to Lanzhou (located by the Great Wall)? _______________________________________________________________________________________________ 3.
If the natural barriers were not enough, now we have the Great Wall to deal with us well! Judging by the scale about how long is this wall? _______________________________________________
4. Hmm, say that we climb over the wall instead. The Gobi Desert is shown by little dots. How far across is it from north to south at its biggest point?_______________________________________________
5. This is insane! Maybe we should start at Chongquing instead and head for India. There is a
boat waiting at the Bay of Bengal. How far will we need to travel to get from Chongquing to the Bay of Bengal?
