Spiritual Interpretation of the Lord's Prayer By Paramhansa Yogananda
Spiritual Interpretation of the Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen O Heavenly Father, Mother, Friend, Beloved God, may the halo of Thy presence spread over all minds. May the kingdom of matter-worship be changed into worship of Thee. Because we cannot truly love anything without Thee, may we learn to love Thee first and above all. May the heavenly kingdom of bliss which is in Thy Spirit, manifest itself in all its divine qualities on earth, and may all lands be made free from limitations, imperfections, and miseries. Let Thy kingdom, which is within, manifest itself without. Father, leave us not in the pit of temptations, wherein we fell through our misuse of Thy gift of reason. When we are freer and stronger-if it be Thy wish to test us, to see if we love Thee more than temptation - then, Father, make Thyself more tempting than temptation. Father, if it be Thy desire to test us, help us that our wills grow strong to meet Thy tests. Give us our daily bread: food, health, and prosperity for the body, efficiency for the mind, and above all, Thy wisdom and Thy love for our souls. Teach us to deliver ourselves, with Thy help, from the meshes of ignorance woven by our own carelessness.
