Step 4: STRUCTURE • The arrangement and composition of the work • Chapters, panel organization, artistic liberties taken, transition, angles used

Step 5: Craft • The actual “doing” of the job • The tools, techniques, influences, and execution of the work • Adopting one’s own idiom allows them to personalize their craft

Step 6: Surface • The icing on the cake • The “first glance” presentation of the comic- what it appears to be on the outside. • A comic’s surface can be its most important asset. A masterpiece with an ugly cover will get less attention than a mess with a glossy cover.

How to Become a Successful Comics Writer • What do you need to make YOUR OWN? • Idiom- if you have your own manner of planning and executing, your structure, craft, and surface will be unique in turn. • Idea- if the idea is your goal, your art must stand for something attainable and relevant. • Form- if the form is your goal, your art can convey a great deal without deviating from your strengths.
