Academic excellence
“ I was fortunate to have an excellent education, and it prepared me well for my career – but nothing teaches you like experience. I’ve learned a lot along the way, and I’m delighted to share those lessons with students setting out on their careers. I enjoy the chance to meet the business people of the future, and to engage with them in this way. People like me, working in senior posts, have the responsibility to nurture the talent that will take this country forward in an increasingly competitive global economy, and we have many lessons to learn from the new generation of managers and business leaders.”

Retailers have called on our services to help them understand the effects of e-commerce on the sector. One such alliance is a collaboration with Tesco to form the £25m Sustainable Consumption Institute, a multi-disciplinary centre of global excellence researching major issues associated with sustainability in the retail sector.

Whichever MBA you select and whichever campus you attend, you will gain the same thorough grounding in business management through the core courses, covering aspects such as finance, marketing, strategic management and economics. Though there is variety between them, there are many common themes.
Face-to-face learning There is a significant element of face-to-face teaching for each module – 24 hours each at three-day residential workshops either in the UK or at one of our international executive centres. These intensive workshop sessions are the highlight of the programme for many students. We integrate the workshops midway into each course to maximise the learning opportunity rather than being revision sessions. Workshops are also a great opportunity to network, socialise and build business associates and friends for life.

Skills toolkit
Project working
Our strong emphasis on experiential learning offers opportunities to extract value from each course and elective by applying that learning directly to your business. Every course and project you undertake as a student replicates a real world business challenge and you will quickly see the benefits of our proven Manchester Method. By putting theory into practice you will challenge yourself fully to discover your true capabilities.
Your initial ‘toolkit’ of skills and knowledge is built up during the early part of the MBA programme. You will learn from many of the world’s best business brains, including world-leading academics with impressive commercial experience and high achieving business practitioners.
Your MBA project should apply aspects of management theory directly to a challenge or problem faced by your organisation or an area of particular interest for you and your career. You will be supported throughout by your own academic project supervisor – hand selected for their specialist knowledge of your chosen subject area.
We put emphasis on ‘soft’ people skills and ‘hard’ business skills. This way we create rounded business managers who are adept at dealing with different people and cultures. You will have an opportunity to apply the knowledge gained in each course to your own organisation – testing out the latest theories to keep your business at the forefront of innovation, while improving your leadership, negotiation and strategic management abilities. This practical approach works, as evidenced by the return on investment reported by many students. The MBA enables the ability to think and act creatively as you face future business situations.
As well as developing your creative capabilities and knowledge, your project is a great opportunity to deliver real benefits for your company. They will have the great advantage of consultancy support from an employee who already knows their business backed by a leading academic. You will be addressing a crucial business challenge – providing an invaluable perspective and potentially making a lasting difference.
Corporate sponsorship through consultancy Offering your consultancy services to your organisation through project work and assignments is a great way to secure corporate sponsorship. Tailored programmes MBS can offer you a bespoke service – through tailored programmes exclusively for your employees. We have a long history of delivering ‘closed programmes’ for clients including PricewaterhouseCoopers, BT, Xerox and KPMG. Content, blend of delivery and timing can all be adjusted in line with your requirements. You can choose a teaching base from one or more of our global centres with all having access to our international network of respected academic staff.
Sponsoring companies such as Citibank, Marks & Spencer Money, DaimlerChrysler AG, BAE Systems, Lotus Engineering, Baker Atlas and Siemens AG, value the broad commercial knowledge and in-depth understanding of business processes our graduates develop. We also work closely with partners in business to develop our programmes. Long standing partnerships with more than 3,000 companies means Manchester MBAs are highly regarded by executives and leading employers worldwide.
“It is an intensive competitive market for qualified chartered accountants. The MBA programme is driven by the desire to develop and retain staff with the advantage of being tailored to accommodate KPMG’s business practices and working environment. Blended learning is an excellent concept for a more diverse workforce such as ours and there is excellent support for the group, which is invaluable. We’ve had employees go on to perform exceptionally well within the business, justifying our investment decision and adding value to our clients.” Michael Walby National Exam Training Senior Manager KPMG
