provide. For us, this means creating a new model for graduate business education. Our model focuses on a clearly perceived need for innovative, highly skilled leadership in science- and technology-driven organizations. And we are building an educational experience that is integrated and collaborative, that educates managers and leaders who are bilingual in business and science and who are ready to have an impact in their organizations and the world. We aim to be different – and extraordinary. Where will you see those differences? In our integration with the UC San Diego campus, in the focus on innovation in our MBA curriculum, in the resounding vote of confidence we have received from the business community, in the reputations of our founding faculty, in the intellectual capabilities and creativity of our students. We are passionate about our mission, and we are looking for students who share our passion and who are excited about joining us in the creation of a great institution. If our focus and our mission inspire you, we hope you will explore our program, learn more about The Rady School, and consider joining us in our new venture.

MBA Tracks Our program offers tracks to enable you to deepen your knowledge of specific industry sectors, but Rady MBA Tracks are flexible – a roadmap or suggestion, not a requirement – maximizing your ability to create the educational program that best meets your needs. Depending on your goals, choosing courses elsewhere at UC San Diego might be an important way to deepen your expertise in a specific area of science or technology or to create a broad understanding of trends. Your academic and faculty advisors will work with you as you develop your plan. MBA Tracks build on the core and link you with the innovative worlds of scienceand technology-driven business. These tracks derive directly from San Diego’s regional business strengths and reflect areas of business growth and innovation here – and around the world. They are part of our commitment to collaboration and partnership with a vibrant and active business community and with centers of excellence across the UC San Diego campus. Each track focuses on a sector of science and technology: ■

Communications and Information Technology

Life and Health Sciences

Tracks ensure that The Rady School’s focus on innovation, discovery, and science and technology is expressed in the classroom. Each track involves a variety of components: track-specific modules, track-based study groups for projects or assignments, track-specific electives. The two-quarter Technology Workshop sequence focuses on new developments and their potential to create competitive advantage. Technology Workshop II is project-based, enabling you to take on a project of significant scope. Rady MBAs use this opportunity to work individually or with classmates on projects of critical importance for businesses regionally and

nationally, to develop an entrepreneurial interest, or to explore the potential of a new area of discovery. The project-based format allows you to focus on your interests and your career goals. And, if you choose, you may extend your project beyond a single quarter. The MBA Tracks ensure that your education emphasizes material directly relevant to your career goals and your educational needs, and that your MBA experience gives you solid working relationships with classmates interested in the same industries, technologies, and issues. The result? Your learning – and your network – are enhanced.

Innovati “I am energized by the business leaders who believe our focus and our mission are critically important. We are shaping a program for the best and brightest students, developing them as leaders for the kinds of innovationdriven organizations that are passionately interested in The Rady School.” Julie Sullivan joined UC San Diego in July 2003 as a full professor in The Rady School with a joint appointment in the School of International Relations and Pacific Studies. Professor Sullivan is an internationally known scholar and educator in accounting and taxation. Her research focuses on global accounting and tax planning issues. Innovation is UC San Diego’s tradition UC San Diego is a powerful magnet for those seeking a fresh, next-generation approach to education and research, and Rady MBAs experience an integrated education based on collaborations across departmental boundaries, without an inhibiting, "siloed" environment. Since its founding four decades ago, UC San Diego – one of the ten campuses in the world-renowned University of California system – has rapidly achieved the status of one of the top institutions in the nation for higher education and research. Our interdisciplinary ethos and tradition of innovation and risk-taking underlie our research strength and our ability to recruit top scholars and students. Ten UC San Diego faculty have been awarded the Nobel Prize, with five of them currently on the UC San Diego faculty team. The University ranks 6th in the nation in the number of faculty elected to the National Academy of Sciences. The National Research Council, the most respected guide to academic excellence, ranks UC San Diego 10th in the nation in the quality of its faculty and graduate programs.

Technology in Support of Education UC San Diego’s tradition of innovation includes experimentation and creativity in the use of technology to support and expand learning. The Rady School’s learning management system, RADAR, will steer you through your MBA, providing supporting materials and tools for all your coursework, an environment for virtual teamwork, and a portal for interaction with classmates and faculty. Submit an assignment, get help from a Teaching Assistant, work on a project with your study group, chat with fellow club members about an up-coming event; RADAR and the Rady laptop program ensure that you have the resources you need at your fingertips.

8

Collaborate and Learn Across the University The Rady School provides an atmosphere of strong integration and a spirit of mutual contribution with globally ranked UC San Diego programs in a wide range of areas of study. Rady MBAs may take classes in other graduate programs on campus and will interact with other graduate students for projects, to build vibrant professional networks that span disciplines – and to have fun and make new friends.

Rady MBAs will also learn about cuttingedge research occurring here on the UC San Diego campus – what is happening in the worlds of science and technology that will impact business, and what discoveries might drive new products, new services, new models for business. And you will get to know campus resources and programs that impact innovation-driven companies. You will gain exposure to everything from

Investing in Your Future: Financial Aid Your MBA is an investment of time, energy, and money. Thinking through how you will finance your studies is an important part of your decision-making process. The Rady School is committed to helping you think through your options, providing resources and advice to assist you with your financial decisions. The Rady School provides limited fellowship support to exceptional individuals admitted to The Rady MBA Program. The University also provides some funding through need-based grants to Rady MBAs. Typically, grants are based on financial need, while fellowships also consider academic achievement, career success, and admissions profile. Students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). All admitted students are automatically considered for merit-based fellowships; no additional application is required. Loans provide students with the opportunity to defer the cost of educational expenses by borrowing now and paying later. Loans are often part of a student's financial aid award. By borrowing wisely, however, students can use the competitive interest rates and repayment terms to their advantage. If you are a US citizen or permanent resident, we recommend that you apply for the federal Stafford Loans first, because of favorable interest rates and origination fees. International students are not eligible to receive federal funding through these loan programs. In addition, students may choose private loans. Private loans are available to both domestic and international applicants. You should research individual lending institutions for their respective lending requirements since interest rates and fees may vary. For international applicants, these lending institutions may require that a US citizen co-sign. Information on private lenders with whom UC San Diego has worked is available on our website. We encourage you to borrow only what you need. A limited number of research assistant and teaching assistant positions may be available on campus. Students may apply for these positions once they arrive on campus.
