These special education students also attend Speech. The language level of my students ranges from Pre-Emergent to High Intermediate. Time Frame: Friday, February 1, 2019; 10:20-11:20

Preparation

1.NBT.C.4 Number and Operations in Base Ten - Measurement and Data (MD): Demonstrate understanding of addition within 100, connecting objects or drawing to strategies based on place value (including multiples of 10), properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction. Relate the strategy to a written form. See Table 1. GMP6 Mathematical Process and Practice – Making sense of problems and persevere in solving them: Compare the strategies you and others use. SMP5 Mathematical Process and Practice – Use appropriate tools strategically: Choose appropriate tools. Content Objectives: By the end of this lesson, students will use tools, strategies and properties of operations to solve number stories with two or three addends. Language Objectives: 1. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to use their prior knowledge and base-10 blocks to solve questions involving 2-digit addition. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to show how they solved their 2-digit addition problem using base-10 blocks and base-10 boards. Learning Strategies: 1. Active listening to math mini-lesson: teacher modeling, group, discussion, and classmate pairsharing. 2. Opportunity to ask questions to clarify learning task. 3. Opportunity to work collaboratively with classmates. Key Vocabulary: Compare, base-10 blocks, multiples of 10, 2-digit numbers. Materials: Base-10 blocks, base-10 board, dry erase markers, whiteboard. 2-digit addition math cards.

Instruction Instructional Objective: The lesson is being taught to help my students utilize the skills learned within this unit to help solve 2-digit addition problems. Lesson Introduction of objective: “Alright, so Mrs. Gates and I planned a fun activity for us today. Give me a thumbs up if you remember us having homework that was adding two-digit numbers. Good! Today, we are going to be using our base 10 blocks to help us add numbers that are 2-digit numbers.” Description of task: Teacher 1. Teacher will ask the students to come to the floor. 2. Teacher will introduce the lesson. 3. Teacher will refresh student’s minds and will go over a sample problem of how to use base 10 blocks to add double digit numbers. 4. Teacher will explain with Mrs. Gates how students will play the game with their partner. 5. Teacher will tell the students who their partners will be. Followed up by: “If you have your partner, come up and to me and get your supplies.” 6. Teacher will pass out materials for the students and tell students to begin activity. 7. Teacher will walk around the class to pairs and watch the kids. 8. If the students need help, teacher will help demonstrate what the students should be doing. 9. Teacher will state: “Hands on top.” And get a response from the students: “That means stop.” 10. Teacher will tell the students to stay in place and will ask the students: “Can someone raise their hand quietly and tell me how we can use base-10 blocks to add 2-digit numbers?” 11. The teacher will then ask the students to quickly and quietly make sure that all their materials are together and to put them all away to get ready for the next lesson.

Math Lesson Plan Students: 1. Students will quickly and quietly come to the floor. 2. Students will listen to the teacher introduce their lesson. 3. Students will give teacher a thumbs up if they remember doing 2-digit addition for homework. 4. Students will watch how the teacher plays the game. 5. Students will receive their materials. 6. Students will pick a spot on the floor to play with their partner. 7. Students will demonstrate their prior knowledge by playing the game. 8. Students will be helping their partners play the activity. 9. Students will response to “Hands on top.” By saying “That means stop.” 10. Students will respond to the teacher by raising their hands and telling how we can use base10 blocks to solve double digit math problems. 11. Students will quickly and quietly put away their materials and get ready for the next lesson. Assessment/Evaluation: Assessment will be done during the time of the activity. Teacher will be making sure that students understand what they are doing. If they do not understand what they are doing, teacher will help the students by demonstrating at their location. Modifications: (What extensions and modifications will you use to meet the needs of all students?) I will monitor students as they work alone or in pairs to ensure that students are each getting the opportunity to practice using their math skills. I will encourage the students to use a variety of strategies to solve the math problems. I will remind students of the different strategies they can use to help solve each question. I will model examples of the problems for students who are struggling with understanding the concepts.
