Compare the four texts to the last text. The four texts are all about the final meal or “The Last Supper” which Jesus In the course of the Last Supper, according to the synoptic (but not John), Jesus divides up some bread, says a prayer , and hands the pieces to his disciples, saying this is my body. He then takes a cup of wine, offers another prayer, and hands it around, saying this is my blood of the everlasting 'covenant', which is poured for many. Finally he tells the disciples do this in memory of me. These words do in fact signify the whole point in the final meal. While the last text is different because the article that enclose to John’s accounts is all about the “The Washing of the Feet” and “Jesus Predict Betrayal”.
•
What is missing in the accounts of John that is present in the first four? The missing part in John’s accounts that present in the first four is the scenario of last supper or the final meal.
•
What does John emphasize in his account? John emphasize the washing of the feet which means “Now before the feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end. And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him; Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God; He reset from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. After that he poured water into a bison, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter south unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? Jesus answered and said unto him, what I do thou knows not now; but thou shall know hereafter. Peter satin unto him, Thou shall never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, if I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. Simon Peter satin unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. Jesus satin to him, He that is washed needed not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all. For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, ye are not all clean. So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to
wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. Verily, verily, I say unto you, the servant is not greater than his lord; neither had he that is sent greater than he that sent him. If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.” And the “Jesus Predict Betrayal.” This means that Judas betrayed Jesus for some reasons that Jesus is not King of the Jews. •
What were the actions of Jesus that you can find as common in the first four accounts?
The actions of Jesus that I find as common in the first four accounts were the Jesus divides up some bread, says a prayer, and hands the pieces to his disciples, saying this is my body. He then takes a cup of wine, offers another prayer, and hands it around, saying this is my blood of the everlasting 'covenant', which is poured for many. Finally he tells the disciples do this in memory of me. These words do in fact signify the whole point in the final meal. Jesus wants the disciples to remember him, and his ways even in death, because he knows that they will again be reunited in the kingdom of God. • .
What is holy Eucharist?
The Holy Eucharist is a sacrament and a sacrifice. In the Holy Eucharist, under the appearances of bread and wine, the Lord Christ is contained, offered, and received. The Eucharistic celebration also reminds us of the last hours of Christ's life on earth: There is a washing of hands reminiscent of Pilate's ridding himself of responsibility in the death of Christ. The bread is lifted up as was Christ's body lifted onto the cross. The bread is broken as was his body, and the wine poured out as was his blood.
