Man Made Disasters

A disaster, which is intentionally caused by human intervention (i.e. vandalism, terrorism or industrial sabotage). Or in other words we can say that: Man-made disasters are events which, either intentionally or by accident cause severe threats to public health and well-being. Because their occurrence is unpredictable, man-made disasters pose an especially challenging threat that must be dealt with through vigilance, and proper preparedness and response. Information on the major sources of man-made disasters is provided here to help educate the public on their cause and effects as they relate to emergency planning.

Man Made Disasters can be categorized under Five Main Points :

1. Bioterrorism: A Bioterrorism attack is the deliberate release of viruses, bacteria, or other germs (agents) used to cause illness or death in people, animals, or plants. These agents are typically found in nature, but it is possible that they could be changed to increase their ability to cause disease, make them resistant to current medicines, or to increase their ability to be spread into the environment.

2. Chemical Agents: A chemical emergency occurs when a hazardous chemical has been released and the release has the potential for harming people's health. Chemical releases can be unintentional, as in the case of an industrial accident, or intentional, as in the case of a terrorist attack.

3. Pandemics and Diseases: Doomsday flues typically mean viral infections which have not yet been isolated or to viruses for which we have not yet been able to create cures, treatments or inoculations. As recently as 1918 a flu outbreak killed between 40 and 100 million people worldwide. With technological advances in transportation and trade it has become much easier for deadly disease to travel beyond areas of local infection. Many scientists and health care professionals believe such infections are able to travel

faster than our ability to contain and treat them and we could face devastating global outbreaks. Recently, flues like Bird Flu(H5N1) and Swine Flu(H1N1) cause a severe damage in Everyone’s life.

4. Radiation Emergencies: Radiation is a form of energy that is present all around us. Different types of radiation exist, some of which have more energy than others. Amounts of radiation released into the environment are measured in units called curies. However, the dose of radiation that a person receives is measured in units called rem. Today, we are even using this Radiation Energy in making Nuclear Weapons that can be very dangerous if they are used in Wars and can cause many severe diseases.

5. Terrorism: Terrorism is the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion. At present, there is no internationally agreed definition of terrorism. Common definitions of terrorism refer only to those violent acts which are intended to create fear (terror), are perpetrated for an ideological goal (as opposed to a lone attack), and deliberately target or disregard the safety of non-combatants. Terrorism is spreading very fast in every corner of the world today. Everywhere there is Terrorists attacks and the number is just increasing day by day.

All these points mentioned above can be the one of the major reasons for DOOMSDAY.
