San Sebastian College- Recoletos Canlubang

Introduction The National Service Training Program (NSTP), is a civic education and defense preparedness program for FilipinoTertiary education students instituted by the Government of the Philippines on 23 January 2002 by virtue of Republic Act 9163, otherwise known as the "National Service Training Program (NSTP) Act of 2001" Under the NSTP Program, both male and female college students of any Baccalaureate degree course or technical vocational course in public or private educational institutions are obliged to undergo one of three program components for an academic period of two semesters. The students, however, are free to choose which particular program component to take.

San Sebastian College- Recoletos Canlubang National Service Training Program Act of 2001 (RA 9163) This Act affirms that the prime duty of the government shall be to serve and protect its citizens. In turn, it shall be the responsibility of all citizens to defend the security of the State; thus the government may require each citizen to render personal, military or civil service. In recognition of the vital role of the youth in nation-building, the State shall promote civic consciousness among them and shall develop their physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual and social well being. It shall inculcate the ideals of patriotism, nationalism, and advance their involvement in public and civic affairs. In the pursuit of these goals, the youth shall be motivated, trained, organized and mobilized in military training, literacy, civic welfare and other similar endeavours in service to the nation. This program is aimed at enhancing civic consciousness and defense preparedness in the youth by developing the ethics of service and patriotism while undergoing training.

We are proud to be a Sebastinian, children of God and virtuous follower of the rules and regulations we must move and make a change to profound the purposes of the NSTP in our own little ways. Applying the knowledge we learned through service in our society. Make our knowledge exploitable, useful and functional in every ways. In this thesis, fellow Sebastinians, you will see, pick up and be amazed about the great exertion of the 2015-2016 NSTP students on how they used their knowledge to apply it in some of their actual encounter in the society. Things will not be done this far if there’s no unity in each member “all for one and one for all”. Everyone did their task and also with the help of our beloved NSTP adviser, Candari we wouldn’t be able to explore this far.

CHAPTER ONE Tree Planting Activity (NSTP 1) Introduction In every NSTP Program, tree planting activities are one of the best activities that it can offer and will not come out of the list. Tree planting in its context makes a great deal of giving care to our mother nature since in the past, the nature itself is the first one to give care to mankind whenever they seek for food and a good place to stay. And so, we need to repay the things that the nature did and gave to us. The trees play a great role in our nature, they prevent floods from happening, also the lumber that we use in building infrastructures came from them, they make the soils more fertile and enforced as possible, of course they provide homage to the wild beasts and lastly they give off oxygen that, we, the humans need in order to breathe and survive. The program was held in October, 2016 in front of the school along the sidewalks of Carmelray industries. The students planted many sprouts and have been taking care of them until now. One day, those trees will count as a legacy of them such that their contribution will be greatly recognized by the nature and the school itself.

CHAPTER TWO Mobilization Camp 2016 Introduction

The Mobilization Camp was held in SSC-R Canlubang from February 12 to 13, Friday and Saturday. The said camp was organized by SSC-R Canlubang and had invited Manila to do the activities together. The activity started in the first day at around 9:00 AM. The Manila Stags enjoyed the activities that their facilitators and professors had made and also the Canlubang group. The activities was done in a neat manner such that the SSC-R Manila had a total of 5 groups and the SSC-R Canlubang had only one unified group from all of its program courses participated by the B.S Psychology, BS Information Technology, BS Business Administration, BS Accountancy, BS Hotel Restaurant and Management, BS Tourism and AB Communication. The Canluband had a total number of 40 participants while the Manila had a boasting number of 227 student participants. Nevertheless, their numbers didn’t matter in the activity and instead gave a moral boost to enjoy the games that summates into the Midterms and Final grades of the students of the both universities.

Community Immersion part 1 The first day of community immersion was held on February 20, 2016 Saturday from 7:00 AM until 3:00 PM. The purpose of the immersion was to serve the people in Sitio Locomotive, since they are the community that was chosen by our school. As usual, groups are made to perform the local surveys and activities for the people inside the settlement. The Sebastinians had fun playing with the youngsters while doing recreational activities. Mainly, the officers have been always preparing plans so as to make the program smooth. Also the young representative of the settlement made a talk to the Sebastinians about the current condition of the village and on how life goes in there. The same also applies to the elder representative. After doing the objectives of the said programs, the NSTP students were allowed to have their leisure time with the village people and of course have their own good time.

Community Immersion part 2

The second part of the community immersion was later on resumed on February, 27 2016, Saturday. The highlight of the said date was to give another set of activities for the children and the adults of the said settlement. Furthermore, the participating group of the NSTP students made a program for the people, thus ensuring that the townsfolk in there would be delighted after having seen such feats of events. In addition, the following activities had been done: Introductory talk, dance led by the groovers, playtime activities and finally the feeding program itself. The NSTP students assured that they had a good time with the children in the settlement. Nevertheless, their main purpose of collecting and doing surveys were fulfilled as it seemed. The settlers of the said sitio were very grateful at te end of the day and also they were willing to give extended counts of hospitality towards the NSTP students. The children that they had played with didn’t want to let go of them but unfortunately, they need to. Finally, all the objectives and program goals were achieved by the whole batch and thus their NSTP adviser called for a very good performance of task made by them.
