Macbeth Comparative Essay; Macbeth Vs. Lady Macbeth

In the case of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth one can acknowledge the fact that both are ambitious strong minded, insane and want to attain kingship. However their ideology is far diverse from one another’s. Macbeth, the thane of Glamis and now the thane of Cawdor can be expressed as a very confused yet strong willed, ambitious yet not ambitious nobleman. Although he wants to attain kingship, he has a very strong guilt. … First, as I am his kinsman and his subject Strong both against the deed; then, as his Host, who should against his murder shut The door, not bear the knife myself… I have No spur to prick the sides of my intent, but Only vaulting ambition which o’erleaps itself And falls on th’ other. [I. VII. (13-16)(25-28)] And this guilt of his leads Macbeth to accept his position in life. We will proceed no further in this business He hath honour’d me of late, and I have Bought golden opinions from all sorts of people Which would be worn now in their newest gloss, Not cast aside so soon. (I. VII. 31-35) Lady Macbeth can be profile as the fuel to Macbeths Fire. She is the type of person who is not thankful for what she gets but the type of person who wants it all. She isn't satisfied with Macbeth's newly attained title as the Thane of Cawdor. Only the crown will gratify her, and she is aware of what must be done to get the crown. Lady Macbeth understands that her husband does not have the ruthlessness to commit murder. "too full o' the milk of human kindness / To catch the nearest way" (I. V.17-18), and therefore has to manipulate her husband into doing such a terrible crime. When Macbeth decided not to go forward with the murder she replied that she is a much more manly than he is and could ever be. …I have given suck, and know How tender 'tis to love the babe that milks me: I would, while it was smiling in my face, Have pluck'd my nipple from his boneless gums, And dash'd the brains out, had I so sworn as you Have done to this."
