Students come into the classroom, get their familiar reading baskets and begin reading. The teacher uses this time to monitor students as they read, administer accuracy/fluency checks or DIBELS progress monitor students as needed.

Shared Reading 10:35-11:00 Poem: Big Book: Symbols of America

ABC Ella Chart, Read Poems, Songs, and Big Book Teacher engages children in whole group shared reading experiences that focus on oral language development, print conventions and strategies for reading. Teachers emphasize reading activities that develop oral language, phonemic awareness, letter identification, phonics skills, high frequency words, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills.

“Brain Break” 11:00-11:20 Guided Reading Students will practice locating and identifying front cover, back cover, title, and title page of the book. Later in the week, they will & Centers practice one-to-one correspondence while the teacher models reading the book.

Teacher will lead the class in one or two center games/activities, in order to get them familiar with the game/activity.
