Louisiana College For All Campaign strategy -Coalitions/Stakeholders: -HS students -College students -HS parents -Business Leaders who want smart workers -Religious Groups -Anti-prison groups (education not incarceration) -Democrats (higher education = more likely to be democratic voters) -At-Risk Youth and non-profits that help them -Entrepeneur Promoters -College Teachers and Administrators (more students/money/classes) -Anti-crime groups (crime goes down where education is higher) -Newspapers (smarter = more readers) -Prison Work-Release Inmates who could go to college instead of imprisonment -Strategy -petition and college organizing and statewide network creation within colleges and HSs -legislation proposal -Get Experts On Board: economists, sociologists, business professors, education scholars, public policy people, etc…. -teach-ins -conferences bringing together all stakeholders -literature targeting different stakeholders -website -editorials -occupations -strikes -walkouts -demonstrations at offices of opponents -home demos at politicians homes -creating free schools/popular colleges until the change is made -incremental victories: getting all employees at colleges free classes if they want them, expanding TOPS to more GPAs, lower tuition, -use campaign to provide a broader structural critique of capitalist government policies, pro-prison policies, etc…. -Opponents -GOP -anti-spending advocates (try to convince them that more money will be created by an educated workforce) -businesses who need unskilled workers -segments of the rich who think they will be taxed to pay for it -students and grads trying to protect the exclusive value of their degree -anti-communists -racists -prison guard unions + prisons

-groups who want state funds for themselves (use argument of economic growth via educated entrepeneurs to increase overall revenue and allow both things to be funded) -private universities Slogans: Make Equal Opportunity a Reality in America Make Louisiana Smarter Equal Opportunity for All --------------A good project for students for change to accomplish (maybe have to change the name to “LA College For All”) in my last 2 years at UNO I think.
